Associate Transport Planner - London / Surrey (Hybrid)

Location: Surrey/ London

Salary:£50,000/£60,000

Penguin Recruitment is proud to partner with a leading UK consultancy in the search for an experienced Associate Transport Planner to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a senior role within a respected consultancy, working on a diverse range of development projects across the UK while benefiting from a hybrid working environment based in London or Surrey.

Our client specialises in transport planning and infrastructure design across a wide variety of sectors, including residential, retail, leisure, office, distribution, industrial, education, healthcare, and mixed-use developments. Their team delivers tailored solutions throughout the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and assessment through to implementation and supervision, with a strong reputation for providing cost-effective infrastructure solutions.

As an Associate Transport Planner, you will play a key role in leading transport planning projects, managing client relationships, and supporting the delivery of integrated infrastructure solutions across a broad range of developments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and delivery of Transport Assessments and Transport Statements.
  • Prepare and develop Travel Plans for a range of development projects.
  • Undertake and manage transport modelling and analytical assessments.
  • Carry out feasibility studies to support development proposals.
  • Provide transport planning input to highway design projects.
  • Coordinate with drainage and flood risk specialists to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and professional technical reports.
  • Present technical findings to clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
  • Attend meetings, consultations, and, where required, public inquiries to provide expert transport planning advice.
  • Mentor and support junior members of the transport planning team.
  • Assist with project management to ensure work is delivered to a high standard and within agreed timescales.
  • Contribute to bids and proposals for new projects.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Ensure quality, consistency, and timely delivery across all projects.
  • Work collaboratively within a hybrid team environment while also managing your own workload independently.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in transport planning, including the delivery of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans for development projects.
  • Proficiency in transport modelling and related analytical tools, with the ability to interpret data and translate findings into practical recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills, including technical report writing, presenting complex information to non-specialists, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.
  • Professional accreditation with CIHT, TPS, ICE, or working towards accreditation is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience of UK transport policy, design standards, and development planning processes, including liaison with local authorities and other public bodies.
  • Competence using relevant software, including junction and network modelling, GIS, and MS Office.
  • Strong analytical and detail-focused approach.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality, inclusive, and ethical professional practice.
