Job descriptionA group of five primary schools across Wiltshire is seeking a dependable School Caretaker to join its Estates team on a full-time, permanent basis. The role supports four small village primary schools and one larger primary school, providing a varied workload across welcoming school communities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys practical work and takes pride in maintaining safe, secure, and well-presented environments where children can learn and thrive. Working across the schools, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring each site remains compliant, well maintained, and ready for the school day. The Role Working closely with the Trust Estates Lead and school leadership teams, the successful candidate will undertake a broad range of caretaking and site management responsibilities. Duties will include: Opening, locking, and securing school buildings Carrying out routine health & safety and compliance checks Completing general maintenance, DIY tasks, and minor repairs Responding promptly to day-to-day maintenance issues Maintaining school grounds and ensuring sites remain tidy and presentable Liaising with contractors and monitoring works on site Supporting planned maintenance during school holiday periods Providing support across the five schools when required About the Schools The schools consist primarily of small village primary schools , alongside one larger primary school, all working collaboratively within a supportive Trust. Each school has its own identity while sharing a commitment to providing safe, welcoming environments where pupils and staff can flourish. The Estates team plays an important role in maintaining these high standards across every site. The Successful Candidate Applications are welcomed from experienced Caretakers, Site Assistants, Facilities Assistants, Maintenance Operatives, Building Caretakers, or candidates with transferable maintenance experience. The successful candidate will be practical, organised, and reliable, with a good understanding of building maintenance, health & safety, and site security. A positive attitude and the ability to work independently across multiple sites are essential. Previous school experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
