Job summary
Research Nursing associate working with children and young people will involve supporting, coordinating, and overseeing research studies in line with the competencies of the role and scope of practice under the NMC registration. This includes ensuring adherence to ethical, legal and regulation standards. Maintaining accurate records and ensuring patient safety, paying great attention to detail and strong organisational skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities and contributing to the overall success of research goals. A research nurse associate has a key role in patient care, data collection and study coordination, collaborating with other healthcare professionals and providers from across the Trust.

NMC Nursing Associate registration is essential for this post.

Main duties of the job
  • To support the safe conduct of research studies in accordance with national guidance.
  • To provide technical, practical/clinical, and administrative assistance for research projects.
  • To provide core support within the Clinical Research Team at RCHT.
  • To support the relevant study portfolio and support with patient participation, recruitment and other key activities
  • To implement and monitor clinical requirements associated with research to ensure optimum delivery of clinical trials and other research and in line with the role competencies and scope of practice under the NMC registration.
  • To ensure that all research procedures are conducted according to study protocols and will be responsible for the recruitment of research participants, data collection and care of research patient participants with a focus on providing a quality experience.
  • To initiate daily in order to plan and effectively maintain individual diary and workload.

Qualifications
Essential
  • GCSEs including English, Maths and Science at grade A-C (or demonstratable equivalent)
  • NVQ Level 3 in healthcare or equivalent
  • NMC Registration

Experience
Essential
  • Experience in dealing with confidential patient information
  • Ability to communicate information to patient/carers/members of MDT
  • Proven record of meeting targets
  • Evidence of up-to-date professional development
  • Broad and recent clinical experience relevant to the post

Desirable
  • Experience of clinical research within the NHS setting
  • Knowledge of research design and methodology
  • Previous experience working on clinical data systems

Practical and Intellectual Skills
Essential
  • Pertinent clinical skills including venepuncture or willingness to undertake
  • Ability to collect accurate clinical measures including standard observations (BP, HR, RR, SPO2 Temp, height, weight, blood sugar)
  • Good report writing, a focus on accuracy and meticulous attention to detail
  • Capacity to manage a diverse caseload and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Excellent organisational skills Well-developed IT skills including understanding of data collection and data entry for clinical trials
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a member of a small team, as well as part of the wider multidisciplinary team

  • Understand the significance of research and use of validated results to improve practice
  • Knowledge of the Research Governance Framework and the international Conference of Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice Guidelines
