Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Highly Specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapist to join the Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Service at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic pelvic health service providing specialist care across a broad range of pelvic health conditions. The successful applicant will manage a varied and complex caseload, delivering evidence-based assessment and treatment for patients with bladder, bowel and pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic pain, obstetric-related conditions, gynaecological conditions, male pelvic health and colorectal presentations.

The role offers opportunities to develop expertise in specialist pelvic health services, participate in multidisciplinary clinics and contribute to the ongoing development of innovative clinical pathways, including potential to expand into paediatric bladder physiotherapy.

The role also involves actively participating in teaching, supervision, quality improvement and service development. Main Duties of the Job
The successful applicant will provide highly specialist assessment, diagnosis and evidence-based management for patients presenting with a wide range of pelvic health conditions. They will independently manage a complex caseload, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. The post holder will contribute to service development, quality improvement, clinical education, supervision and audit, whilst supporting the continued delivery and growth of an innovative tertiary pelvic health service.

Job Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Independently assess, diagnose and manage a specialist caseload of patients presenting with bladder, bowel and pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic pain, obstetric and gynaecological conditions, male pelvic health conditions and colorectal disorders.
  • Develop and deliver individualised, evidence-based treatment programmes using advanced clinical reasoning and decision-making skills.
  • Recognise red flags and clinical complexities, initiating appropriate investigations, onward referrals and multidisciplinary input where required.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and legally compliant clinical records in accordance with Trust and professional standards.
  • Participate in specialist and multidisciplinary clinics, contributing to integrated patient management and complex case discussions.

Leadership, Education and Supervision
  • Provide clinical supervision, mentorship and support to junior physiotherapists, support workers and physiotherapy students.
  • Deliver teaching and contribute to competency development, in-service training and professional education within the Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Service.
  • Act as a clinical resource for colleagues and contribute to maintaining high standards of clinical practice.

Service Development and Quality Improvement
  • Participate in clinical audit, research, service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and review of clinical pathways, guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  • Support the Clinical Lead in the ongoing development and delivery of a high-quality, responsive pelvic health service.

Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current evidence, national guidance and best practice within pelvic health physiotherapy.
  • Participate in regular clinical supervision, appraisal and continuing professional development.
  • Promote effective multidisciplinary working, demonstrating excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.

Person Specification
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential
  • Degree or Equivalent in Physiotherapy
  • Evidence of Continued Professional/ Development at 'M' level including attendance at recent post graduate courses relevant to Pelvic Health
  • HCPC Registration
  • Full membership of POGP

Desirable
  • MSc in Pelvic Health Physiotherapy
  • Formal management training

Experience
Essential
  • Significant Band 6 level experience of working in pelvic Health physiotherapy in both inpatient and outpatient environments, including management of complex caseload encompassing bladder, bowel, pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic pain, obstetric, gynaecological, colorectal and male pelvic health conditions.
  • Good Working Knowledge of All Areas of Clinical Governance Including Quality, Audit and Risk management
  • Previous experience of student supervision and clinical education

Desirable
  • Experience in leading service development
  • Previous experience of formal presentations to multi professional groups
  • Experience of operational team management

Skills
Essential
  • Advanced skills in pelvic health physiotherapy including vaginal and rectal examinations and biofeedback applications
  • Highly developed communication skills with ability to deal with sensitive, conflicting and contentious matters in a hostile environment
  • Ability to work autonomously within specialist clinical area
  • Ability to lead and motivate others within the team
  • Proven Organisational Skills including prioritisation and delegation

Desirable
  • Actively involved in research and contribution to evidenced based practice
  • Competent IT skills: ability to create and/or format databases and/or spreadsheets using computerized systems
