Deputy Head of Specialist Clinical Teaching Academy
Job summary
The Deputy Head of Specialist Clinical Teaching Academy will assist the Head of Academy in leading, managing and developing undergraduate medical education within the Specialist Clinical Teaching Academy at Birmingham Children's Hospital. The post-holder will work collaboratively with Birmingham and Aston Medical Schools, Trust leadership, educational faculty and students to ensure the effective delivery, quality assurance and continuous improvement of undergraduate medical education. The role promotes excellence in teaching, assessment, curriculum delivery, student support and educational governance across the Academy.

Main duties of the job
PROFESSIONAL

  • Provide leadership to teaching and administrative staff within the Academy.
  • Support recruitment and development of Academy Tutors and Academy Teachers.


CLINICAL

  • Maintain professional registration and clinical responsibilities relevant to substantive consultant role.
  • Incorporate current clinical expertise into undergraduate teaching activities.


PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  • Coordinate teaching staff to ensure effective curriculum delivery.
  • Support performance review and appraisal of educational activities.


SAFEGUARDING

Knowledge, Judgement, Managerial & Personal Skills
Essential

  • Minimum consultant level or equivalent senior medical level substantive role e.g. SAS with an ability to manage competing priorities effectively
  • Experience working with undergraduate medical students and postgraduate trainees and educational programmes
  • Significant involvement in medical education & awareness of recent changes in delivery of medical education at both a national and local level
  • Proven ability in leadership of facilitation, interpersonal, mediation and negotiation skills in order to promote medical and dental education and challenge practice.
  • Commitment to educational excellence and continuous improvement at both a personal and Trust level
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
