Job description

Overview

There has never been a more exciting time tojoin Screwfix.

Screwfix is one of the UK's most successful and fastest-growing retailers, with over 1,000 stores, revenues of c.£2.5bn and a clear position as the UK & ROI's largest multi-channel retailer of trade tools, plumbing, electrical and hardware products. Our success is built on a simple but powerful customer purpose: helping our customers get theirjobs done quickly, affordably and right first time.

Digital sits at the heart of that proposition. Over 75% of the business is driven through our digital ecosystem, with customers moving seamlessly between our website, app, stores, Click & Collect and delivery services. From Sprint, our 20-minute delivery proposition, to personalised digital experiences, we continue to raise the bar for convenience in the trade sector.

Last year we launched Screwfix Rewards, now the UK's biggest trade loyalty programme, creating an even stronger connection with our customers and opening up new opportunities to deliver more personalised and rewarding experiences.

With continued investment in digital platforms, customer data and AI capabilities, we have strong foundations for the next phase of growth. We're looking for an exceptional ecommerce leader to build on that momentum, accelerating app growth, enhancing personalisation, improving customer experience and ensuring Screwfix remains at the forefront of digital retail innovation.

The Role

As Director of Ecommerce, you will be a senior leader within the Digital & Data function, reporting to our Digital & Data Director. Working closely with them and the wider leadership team, you will define and deliver the next chapter of Screwfix's ecommerce strategy.

You will inherit a highly successful digital business, with responsibility for online sales of c.£1.6bn and a significant digital marketing budget. Your remit spans web, app, digital trading, CRO and Sprint, our 20-minute delivery proposition, balancing delivery today with building the capabilities that will drive future growth.

As a senior leader, you will also play a critical role in developing and leading a high-performing ecommerce team. We will need a skilled people leader who can inspire, coach and empower colleagues, build strong leadership capability across the function, and create an environment where talent can thrive while delivering outstanding business results.

This is a broad commercial and customer leadership role. You will drive performance across key ecommerce metrics, lead our conversion rate optimisation programme, accelerate the growth of our app business, and use customer insight, loyalty, personalisation and AI to create simpler, faster and more relevant customer experiences. You will embed data-driven decision making, champion innovation and help shape the future of digital at Screwfix.

Responsibilities

  • Defining and delivering a future-focused Ecommerce strategy aligned to the Screwfix Growth Plan
  • Owning and optimising end-to-end online trading performance, delivering against ambitious KPIs (traffic, conversion, AOV and retention)
  • Championing a customer-first approach, creating seamless, engaging and personalised digital journeys
  • Leading the development of personalisation and segmentation strategies using data and behavioural insights
  • Driving collaboration across Commercial, Marketing, Product and Supply Chain to execute world-class digital campaigns
  • Partnering with Technology, Product and Data teams to evolve Ecommerce platforms that are scalable, secure and future-ready
  • Building and leading a high-performing Ecommerce function, developing capability across trading, app, analytics and optimisation
  • Staying ahead of Ecommerce trends, technologies and customer behaviours to drive innovation and competitive advantage
  • Acting as a key voice within the leadership team, shaping broader digital and business strategy

This is a highly visible role, requiring strong leadership, influence and a clear digital and commercial voice.

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who is commercially sharp, customer-obsessed and pragmatic — a leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, builds strong partnerships and combines strategic thinking with a relentless focus on delivery. Above all, you'll bring a passion for digital innovation and a deep understanding of customer behaviour, helping Screwfix continue to set the standard for convenience, service and digital excellence in the trade sector.

Recruitment Process

We review applications on an individual basis, and if we feel you would be a good fit we’ll invite you for a call or Teams video for an informal chat about the role, and to see if we’re a good fit for you.

From there you can expect a comprehensive process, with regular contact from the Head of Talent Acquisition who is always available for any queries you may have.

We value open and honest conversations and collaboration, giving you a chance to learn about what we are doing in an informal and friendly environment. We want to know about you and why you feel that this is the opportunity that excites you.

Please note, this is not a remote role, and our expectation is that you will be able to attend Head Office in a hybrid way, in Yeovil.

What’s in it for you?

  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • Company car or car allowance
  • 25 days’ holiday, including bank holidays (with five days flexible)
  • Hybrid working, with up to two days working from home
  • Flexible start and finish times around core hours
  • Buy More Holiday scheme: increase your allowance by up to one extra week
  • Up to 14% employer pension contribution
  • Life assurance of up to 4x salary
  • Health cash plan and discounted gym memberships (up to 25% saving)
  • 20% colleague discount at Screwfix and B&Q

Your wellbeing at Screwfix

  • Colleague Support Fund and exclusive discounts
  • Clear career progression and leadership development
  • Coaching, mentoring and performance supportAccess to wellbeing resources and inclusive colleague networks

Sustainability at Screwfix

We are committed to building a better future for our customers, our communities and our planet. Sustainability is embedded in how we think, plan and operate, and you’ll play a key role in shaping that journey.

Our culture

At Screwfix, inclusivity isn’t an initiative – it’s how we work. We’re proud of a culture built on openness, fairness and teamwork, where different perspectives are valued and everyone has the opportunity to progress.
