Job description
Job Summary
We are recruiting to an Advanced Practitioner role within Cardiology at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.

This opportunity is open to:
  • Qualified Advanced Care Practitioners (ACP) / Advanced Clinical Practitioners with experience or interest in Cardiology
  • Allied Health Professionals or Registered Nurses who wish to train to become Advanced Care Practitioners and meet entry requirements

The post holder will work at an advanced level of practice to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across cardiology services. The role includes autonomous clinical decision-making, leadership, service improvement, education, and research in line with the four pillars of advanced practice.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Deliver advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of cardiology patients
  • Manage a defined caseload, including complex and undifferentiated presentations
  • Initiate and review treatment plans, including prescribing where appropriate
  • Work autonomously while recognising scope of practice and escalation requirements
  • Provide clinical leadership within the multidisciplinary team
  • Support and lead service improvement, audit, and quality initiatives
  • Contribute to education, supervision, and development of the wider workforce
  • Participate in research, evidence-based practice, and innovation
  • Ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred care across pathways

Job Responsibilities
Clinical Practice
  • Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate care using advanced clinical skills
  • Manage complex and undifferentiated cardiology presentations
  • Make evidence-based decisions using clinical judgement and multiple information sources
  • Initiate and adjust treatments including medication, therapies, and lifestyle advice
  • Work in partnership with patients, families, and carers to support decision-making
  • Manage clinical risk and act within defined professional and organisational frameworks
  • Work collaboratively across MDT and organisational boundaries
  • Maintain high standards of documentation, infection control, and patient safety

Person Specification
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
  • Significant demonstrable experience within speciality
  • Proven evidence of management ability and leadership qualities.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Statutory Professional Registration.
  • Masters Degree in Advanced Practice or equivalent (as defined by Trust AP policy)
  • Committed to completing the MSc in advanced clinical practice.
  • Proven evidence of relevant, recent study and continuing professional development

Desirable
  • Commitment to work toward Independent non-medical prescribing, if from a core profession in which NMP is supported (if required within service)
  • Willingness to complete Education/Mentorship/ Supervision Course

Aptitude & Abilities
Essential
  • Proven ability to recognise and analyse complex situations and take appropriate action
  • Proven evidence of relevant, recent study and continuing professional development
