Job summary
We are looking to recruit an Assistant Psychologist on a full time substantive contract on a full time basis.

NSFT has five under 18s eating disorders teams across Norfolk, including community teams in Great Yarmouth, Norwich and Kings Lynn, an Eating Disorders Intensive Treatment Team (EDITT) and a county wide team focusing on Avoidant and Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). We have two vacancies, one based in our Norwich team, and one split across our Great Yarmouth and ARFID teams.

We are looking to recruit someone with enthusiasm and inter-personal warmth, to a role that will include both clinical work and data collection and analysis.

Main duties of the job
You will work alongside a qualified clinical psychologist and other members of the MDT and support psychological assessment and treatment, staff training, and collection and analysis of outcome measures using POD. You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will be required to write reports for both clinical work and to provide updates on the routine outcome measures. There may also be opportunities to be involved in service development projects and for training to support your role.

You will receive weekly supervision from a qualified psychologist. We have close links to the clinical psychology doctoral training programme at the UEA and have supported previous assistant psychologists onto clinical training.There are a total of three Assistant Psychologists across the service line. We can accommodate some flexible working, in line with the service need and we are a Family Friendly and supportive team. There will be a requirement to be able to travel independently across the beautiful Norfolk and Suffolk countryside with the frequency dependent on post.

Job responsibilities
  • To support and enhance the professional psychological care of patients within the Directorate, across all aspects of care; providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified clinical psychologist and within the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures.
  • To assist in clinically related administration, teaching and project work.
  • To take part in research; to collect, input and analyse routine data and to report this to clinical teams, managers and others; to liaise with clinical teams across the directorate.
  • To carry out protocol based psychological assessments of patients, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients and others involved in their care, under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
  • To assist in the formulation and delivery of patient care involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a patients problems, under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
  • Where required and appropriate, to assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups, under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
  • Where required and appropriate, to prepare psychology reports, under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
  • Where required and appropriate, to attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • To discharge statutory social care functions as delegated under section 75 agreement with Norfolk County Council for Service Users and Carers on behalf of the organisation (For Norfolk Service Users only)
  • To provide appropriate health and social care interventions according to service users recovery goals (For Norfolk Service Users only)
  • To assess health and social care needs as part of an integrated team, and implement/commission packages of care where appropriate.

  • A BPS accredited degree in Psychology

Experience

  • Experience of quantitative research

Desirable
  • Experience of research in the NHS

Skills
Essential
  • Skills using microcomputers for databases or date analysis, especially SPSS for Windows
  • Must hold Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable
  • Presentation Skills

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of mental health

Desirable
  • An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems or other disabilities.
