Job description
A forward-thinking secondary school in Hackney is looking to appoint an experienced HR Officer to join its support staff team on a full-time, temporary basis from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for an organised HR professional to become part of a busy school where people are at the heart of its success. Working closely with the School Business Manager and senior leaders, the successful candidate will help deliver an efficient HR service, supporting staff across every stage of the employee lifecycle while ensuring the school remains compliant with employment and safeguarding requirements. The role would suit someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in providing a professional, responsive and people-focused HR service. The Role The HR Officer will play an important role in supporting the school's day-to-day HR operations and maintaining high standards across all people processes. Responsibilities will include: Supporting recruitment campaigns and coordinating interview processes Managing pre-employment checks and safeguarding compliance Maintaining HR systems and employee records Preparing contracts, contract variations and HR correspondence Liaising with payroll to ensure staffing changes are processed accurately Monitoring absence records and supporting attendance procedures Assisting managers with HR queries and administrative support Contributing to the ongoing development of HR processes and systems About the School The school is recognised for its inclusive culture, ambitious leadership and commitment to creating an environment where both pupils and staff can succeed. The Successful Candidate The school is seeking a proactive HR professional with previous experience in a generalist HR or HR administration role. The successful candidate will have excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage confidential information with discretion. A confident communicator with a positive and solutions-focused approach will thrive in this varied position. Experience within education would be beneficial but is not essential.
