Job overview The pre-operative assessment team, are looking for an experienced pre-operative assessment nurse who is a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills to join our leadership team team. The pre-operative team consists of Nurses, anaesthetists, health care support workers and administrators. We provide a nurse led clinic supported by our anaesthetic consultants for patients undergoing surgery for a range of procedures, and specialties. We also work collaboratively with the inpatient and day surgery teams. Our aim is to provide safe effective pre-operative care and we are responsible for ensuring a safe patient assessment in line with national guidelines and deliver a high standard of care with a patient centred approach. We are looking for someone with pre-operative assessment experience with a positive and progressive attitude, ability to problem solve, competent in advanced assessment skill and works well in a multi-disciplinary team. Additional working pattern details: Multiple posts available Main duties of the job - To coordinate and supervise a shift, communicating effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality, evidence-led care to patients. - To exercise clinical judgment and decision making about patient needs in terms of long term goals or plans. - Carry our face to face and telephone assessments - Triage new referrals and patient health questionnaires- To participate fully in the day to day organisation. - To assume personal accountability for nursing care delivered to a patient in accordance with the NMC code of conduct. Person specification Knowledge * Evidence of being self-motivated and able to work under own initiative and prioritise workload * Evidence of being personally resilient and able to manage complexity and work in an ambiguous or changing environment * Evidence of demonstrating ability to use clinical reasoning skills and techniques to assess, implement, plan and offer a range of treatment options; deliver, evaluate and amend the treatment plan * Evidence of acting as a role model and are able to lead by example to ensure the Trust’s values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice * Evidence of having a passion for teaching, education and practice development * Evidence of being able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety * Evidence of demonstrating the ability to question and challenge nursing practice in a constructive way so that standards of patient care are continually evaluated and improved * Evidence of working with enthusiasm and genuine interest within the multidisciplinary team Qualifications * Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse (Adult) or equivalent with relevant post registration experience * Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of a professional portfolio, registration revalidation & commitment to lifelong learning * Recognised Nursing Degree or equivalent and a Recognised Teaching Qualification or working toward * Completed Bronze QI and desire to work towards Silver Experience * Previous experience working as registered nurse in a pre-operative assessment unit * Post registration experience working as a registered nurse * Demonstrates knowledge and passion for Practice Development * Research aware * Experience of working in an acute surgical environment * Previous experience working as a Band 6 in Pre-operative Assessment Qualities * Display a caring attitude to patients, their relatives and colleagues * Be both enthusiastic and self-aware * Resilient under pressure, whilst understanding own limitations * Team focused * Reliable, Adaptable and Dependable We reserve the right to expire vacancies prior to the advertised closing date once a sufficient number of applications have been received.
