Job description
Job summary
The Yorkshire Regional Burn Centre at Pinderfields Hospital provides specialist care for patients who have sustained thermal injuries or skin loss disorders. As a regional centre of excellence and part of the Northern Burn Care Operational Delivery Network, we receive referrals from across Yorkshire, the Humber and North Lincolnshire, serving a geographical catchment population of approximately 5 million people. As the regional adult burn centre, we provide care for patients with the most severe burn injuries, as well as those with less complex burn and skin loss conditions requiring specialist assessment and treatment.

Our adult burn service includes a 7-bedded inpatient unit, with 2 dedicated intensive care beds for the management of critically ill patients, a busy seven-day ambulatory care unit, and a regional outreach service supporting patients closer to home. Together, these services enable us to deliver specialist burn care throughout every stage of the patient journey, from emergency treatment and critical care through to rehabilitation and long-term follow-up.

Due to internal promotion, we have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and compassionate Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our dedicated team. This role offers the opportunity to work across both the inpatient unit and ambulatory care service, providing high-quality, specialist care to patients with burns and complex skin loss conditions.

Main duties of the job
  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients with burn injuries and complex skin loss conditions across inpatient and ambulatory care settings.
  • Undertake complex and often lengthy burn dressing changes using specialist techniques, ensuring effective pain management, infection prevention and patient comfort throughout treatment.
  • Manage burn wound care throughout the patient's treatment journey, monitoring wound healing, recognising complications and escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Run nurse-led clinics within the Ambulatory Care Unit, providing ongoing wound management, education and follow-up care, and contributing to discharge planning.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate and deliver holistic, patient-centred care in accordance with the British Burn Association National Standards (2023)
  • Provide compassionate psychological support to patients and their families, recognising the physical and emotional impact of burn injuries and facilitating access to specialist support services where required.
  • Safeguard adults and young people by recognising, responding to and escalating safeguarding concerns in line with Trust policies and national guidance.
  • Support patients and relatives throughout rehabilitation and reintegration, promoting independence, recovery and self-management.
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, clinical audit and implementation of evidence-based practice.
