Full-time: 35 hours per week

Open-ended (permanent)

Help us redefine what’s possible. Be part of something bigger.

Here, you can continue to make a difference in everything around you. Take on new challenges, grow your career, be recognised for your contributions, and benefit from our commitment to your wellbeing. Be part of something bigger — where your work has real impact and your development matters. There are so many reasons to take your next step with us.

Our technical staff are essential to supporting teaching, research, and the smooth operation of our facilities. Whether you are maintaining cutting-edge lab equipment, facilitating ground-breaking research, developing new techniques, or enhancing student and staff experience with top-notch facilities, your work will have a lasting impact that stretches far beyond our academic community.

The Opportunity:

The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint an experienced and talented Technical Manager (teaching) to join its skilled Technical Services team of ca.35 staff. The post holder works closely with the Technical Services Manager, playing a leading role in delivery of a sustainable, effective and safe approach to the running of the School’s teaching laboratories.

The School currently has 7 dedicated teaching laboratories across chemical engineering, light structures, mechanical engineering, power engineering and electronics. Additionally, there are numerous multi-use spaces which are also used in relation to delivery of taught laboratory classes, including research laboratories and workshop spaces. Combined, these spaces support learning and teaching through delivery of specialist practical classes to both undergraduate and taught postgraduate students, under the management and leadership of the Technical Manager (teaching).

The Technical Manager (teaching) will deliver a safe and efficient working environment across their area of responsibility, ensuring compliance with policies and legislation and optimising use of the available resource. They have line management responsibility for 8 (or the) Teaching Technicians and will support them in the successful design and delivery of workshop and laboratory-based teaching. The successful candidate should demonstrate excellent H&S awareness and familiarity with H&S documentation (e.g., risk assessments, COSHH).

The Engineering Technical Services team’s purpose is to enable the School of Engineering’s world-class teaching and research through the provision of exceptional technical expertise. We value colleagues with drive, determination and a passion for what they do.

A career with us has a range of other benefits that can be tailored to your lifestyle:

  • Opportunities to develop new skills and broaden your experience
  • Variety every day

  • Excellent benefits and support
