Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to undertake the role of Clinical Service Lead for Neurology within the Surgery Division Group.

The role of the Clinical Service Lead at Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital is to provide senior level leadership and direction in a speciality area within a Clinical Group. The Clinical Service Lead provides support to the Clinical Service Director in developing clinical services, enhancing the safety and quality of patient care, ensuring delivery against performance targets including financial balance and the management of the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a substantive medical or dental consultant employed by the Trust, or a clinician from another profession employed in a substantive clinical post of equivalent seniority within the Trust. They should have wide experience and clinical knowledge of the specialty involved. It is expected that the Clinical Service Lead will have undertaken suitable senior leader development before appointment.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
Essential
  • Substantive medical or dental consultant employed by the Trust, or a clinician from another profession employed in a substantive clinical post of equivalent seniority within the Trust
  • Evidence of personal and professional development.
  • At least 3 years' experience as a consultant (or equivalent) within the NHS
  • Participation in Trust's senior leaders' development programmes
  • Credibility in the clinical environment and within the specialty
  • Knowledge of the structure and function of the NHS. Understanding of current NHS issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; approachable and supportive of others
  • Leadership skills and ability to lead by example
  • Ability to think both analytically and creatively and to use initiative
  • Excellent prioritisation skills

Desirable
  • Previous experience of leading substantial change in a clinical environment
