Inyanga Maritime is at the forefront of the global marine renewable energy industry, combining world-class engineering with specialist marine operations to deliver innovative solutions for offshore renewable energy projects.

As part of the Inyanga Marine Energy Group, the company is leading the engineering, manufacture and commercial deployment of HydroWing—a next-generation tidal stream energy technology designed to deliver predictable, low-carbon electricity at commercial scale.

HydroWing is being developed for the 30 MW Morlais Project off Anglesey, one of Europe's largest consented tidal energy developments and a flagship project helping establish tidal stream energy as a mainstream renewable technology.

Alongside HydroWing, Inyanga Maritime designs specialist offshore equipment and delivers engineering and marine operations supporting offshore wind, tidal energy and wider marine infrastructure throughout the UK and internationally.

As the business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Chief Technical Officer to provide strategic technical leadership and drive the development of world-leading marine renewable energy technologies.

Purpose of the Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Chief Technical Officer will lead the Company's technology strategy, engineering development and innovation activities.

The CTO will provide technical leadership across the HydroWing programme, ensuring the successful progression of technology from concept development through detailed engineering, manufacture, certification, commercial deployment and operational optimisation.

The successful candidate will work closely with investors, customers, certification bodies, research organisations and project partners to establish HydroWing as one of the world's leading commercial tidal energy technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the Company's long-term technology strategy.
  • Define future product roadmaps for HydroWing and associated marine technologies.
  • Identify emerging technologies and opportunities for innovation.
  • Ensure technology development aligns with commercial objectives.

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams across mechanical, structural, electrical and marine engineering disciplines.
  • Establish engineering standards and design processes.
  • Oversee technical governance throughout all projects.
  • Mentor senior engineers and technical specialists.

HydroWing Programme

  • Direct the technical development of the HydroWing tidal energy system.
  • Lead engineering activities supporting the Morlais 30 MW commercial deployment.
  • Oversee design verification, testing and certification.
  • Drive continuous product improvement through operational experience.

Innovation & Intellectual Property

  • Develop the Company's intellectual property strategy.
  • Build relationships with universities and research organisations.

Commercial Support

  • Support business development and strategic partnerships.
  • Present technology to customers, investors and government stakeholders.
  • Represent the Company at conferences and international industry events.

Governance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards and certification requirements.
  • Manage technical risks.
  • Support Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality objectives.

Experience and Skills

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or related engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent.
  • Minimum 15 years' engineering experience.
  • Significant experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Proven track record delivering complex offshore engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of offshore renewable energy technologies.
  • Experience managing engineering budgets and technical programmes.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience within tidal energy.
  • Offshore wind experience.
  • Knowledge of offshore certification (DNV, Lloyd's Register, ABS).
  • Experience with intellectual property development.
  • Experience securing innovation funding.
  • Board or executive management experience.
  • International business experience.

Personal Attributes

  • Visionary technology leader.
  • Commercially aware.
  • Strategic thinker.
  • Inspirational communicator.
  • Collaborative leadership style.
  • Passionate about renewable energy.
  • Innovative and entrepreneurial.
  • Committed to technical excellence.

Joining Inyanga Maritime offers the opportunity to lead the technological direction of one of the most exciting companies in the global marine renewable energy sector. As Chief Technical Officer, you will help shape the future of HydroWing and play a pivotal role in delivering technologies that support the world's transition to secure, predictable and low-carbon energy.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead the continued development of HydroWing, one of the world's most advanced commercial tidal energy technologies.
  • Deliver the technology strategy for the 30 MW Morlais Project, one of Europe's flagship tidal energy developments.
  • Influence the future direction of marine renewable energy through innovation, research and commercial deployment.
  • Work with leading universities, industrial partners, investors and government organisations across the UK and internationally.
  • Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary engineering team developing first-of-a-kind offshore technologies.
  • Benefit from flexible working across our engineering offices in the Celtic regions of Cornwall, Brittany (France) and Anglesey (North Wales), working alongside an international team at the heart of Europe's marine renewable energy industry.
  • Represent Inyanga Maritime as a recognised technology leader within the global offshore renewable energy sector
