Job description
CORE PURPOSE We are seeking an inspirational, highly competent Maths Teacher to deliver outstanding mathematics instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with the opportunity to teach Key Stage 5 for a suitably qualified candidate. The successful applicant will foster strong mathematical fluency, problem-solving confidence, and exam rigor, ensuring pupils of all abilities achieve exceptional outcomes. THE SCHOOL Set in an attractive, historic campus with state-of-the-art STEM facilities and dedicated digital classrooms, this high-performing secondary school serves over 1,000 pupils with a reputation for academic excellence and strong community values. The mathematics faculty operates with a highly structured, collaborative scheme of work that emphasizes mastery and practical problem-solving. Supported by subject-specialist mentors, shared planning resources, and modern teaching technology, the department provides an ideal environment for both experienced educators and Early Career Teachers (ECTs) to thrive. KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging, high-leverage mathematics lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, catering to diverse learning needs and promoting mastery. GCSE & A-Level Preparation: Prepare students for GCSE Mathematics examinations (and optional A-Level Core/Further Maths), focusing on exam technique, mathematical reasoning, and targeted intervention. Assessment & Tracking: Regularly assess pupil progress using diagnostic testing and digital tracking tools to inform planning and provide constructive feedback. Departmental Collaboration: Contribute to shared scheme-of-work development, moderation, extra-curricular maths clubs, and national competition entries (e.g., UKMT). Pastoral Duties: Act as a form tutor, maintaining positive relationships with pupils, supporting daily registration routines, and liaising with parents. PROFILE REQUIREMENTS Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or a closely related quantitative discipline. Experience: Open to experienced teachers with a track record of strong examination results, as well as Early Career Teachers (ECTs) demonstrating high potential. Skills: Excellent subject knowledge, strong classroom management, clear communication skills, and the ability to inspire a love for problem-solving. REGIONAL CONTEXT Local Area & Community: Based in the picturesque county town of Hertford, Hertfordshire, the school serves an ambitious, supportive, and active local community. Combining historic timber-framed architecture, scenic riverside paths along the River Lea, and bustling local markets, Hertford offers an outstanding quality of life for staff and families. Transport & Commuting: Hertford benefits from excellent transport connectivity, with direct road links via the A10, A414, and nearby M25 motorway. Public transit options are comprehensive, featuring two primary train stations—Hertford East and Hertford North—offering fast, frequent rail routes directly into London Liverpool Street and Moorgate.
