Job summary

Join our Medicines Optimisation Team and play a key role in improving patient care across Norfolk and Suffolk. As an Appliance Nurse, you will support the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of appliances, working collaboratively with health and care professionals across the system to optimise patient outcomes and experience.

You will provide specialist clinical advice, contribute to the development of evidence-based guidance and care pathways, and support the implementation of appliance-related strategies that improve quality, reduce avoidable harm and minimise waste. The role involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams, analysing data to inform decision-making, supporting service improvement projects, and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver integrated, patient-centred care.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated registered nurse with strong communication, analytical and organisational skills who is passionate about service improvement, medicines optimisation and delivering high-quality, evidence-based care. If you enjoy collaborative working, influencing positive change and making a real difference to patient outcomes across the health and care system, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job
Support the implementation of appliance related strategies across the system to:

  • Improve health outcomes
  • Reduce avoidable harm
  • Avoid waste
  • Improve cost effective use of appliances.

Promote the safe, evidence-based and cost-effective use of appliances by:

  • Providing up to date, unbiased information about treatments and care pathways
  • Developing local guidelines and care pathways to optimise the use of appliances
  • Supporting other health and care providers to deliver medicines optimisation in a way that is high quality, efficient, safe, well led, timely and responsive, effective and equitable.

Matrix working will be required with colleagues across the Medicines Optimisation Team.

About us
We manage an annual budget of £4.9billion to commission safe, highquality and accessible health services for 1.7million people living in Norfolk and Suffolk.

We work with hospitals, GP practices, dentists, pharmacies, community, mental health and ambulance services, alongside local councils and voluntary organisations, to improve care. We involve local communities in shaping decisions and use their insights to improve services. As a statutory NHS organisation, we are accountable to NHS England and the UK Government.

Our role is to ensure services meet current and future needs by setting local NHS strategy, allocating funding, maintaining quality and safety standards, improving access, reducing health inequalities and enabling joinedup care.

Norfolk and Suffolk include rural, coastal and deprived communities, with an olderthanaverage population. Around half of residents live in rural or coastal areas, where access can be harder, and about 219,000 people live in the most deprived areas, where early deaths are significantly higher. These factors shape our planning and focus on reducing inequalities.

Our vision is for people to live longer, healthier lives with access to safe, joinedup, patientcentred care. We prioritise improving healthy life expectancy, reducing inequalities and ensuring consistent access to highquality services.

We work across five local Places and partner with NHS providers, councils, the VCFSE sector and communities to deliver locally responsive care.
