Job description
A successful and well-established secondary school in Croydon is seeking to appoint an experienced Attendance Officer to join its pastoral team on a full-time, permanent basis from September 2026. Attendance plays a vital role in ensuring every student has the opportunity to achieve their full potential, and the school is looking for someone who is passionate about making a positive difference. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and ambitious school where strong relationships with students, families and staff are central to its success. Working closely with senior leaders, pastoral teams and external agencies, the successful candidate will take ownership of attendance monitoring, helping to identify trends, improve punctuality and support students whose attendance may be causing concern. The Role The Attendance Officer will lead the school's day-to-day attendance processes, ensuring accurate record keeping while promoting excellent attendance across the school community. Key responsibilities will include: Monitoring daily attendance and following up on unexplained absences Identifying attendance trends and producing reports for senior leaders Working closely with students and families to improve attendance and punctuality Liaising with external agencies where additional support is required Maintaining accurate attendance records using the school's MIS Supporting attendance meetings and preparing relevant documentation Promoting a positive culture of attendance throughout the school Ensuring attendance procedures remain compliant with statutory guidance About the School The school is recognised for its inclusive ethos, high expectations and commitment to supporting every student to succeed. Staff work collaboratively to create a positive learning environment, and the pastoral team plays a significant role in ensuring students receive the support they need both inside and outside the classroom. The Successful Candidate The school is keen to hear from organised and approachable professionals with previous experience in attendance, pastoral support, school administration or a similar role. Excellent communication skills, strong organisational ability and confidence when building relationships with students, parents and external professionals are essential. Previous experience within a school setting and familiarity with school MIS systems would be advantageous but is not essential.
