Job Summary
The post holder will operate as a member of the service leadership team and as a senior member of the operational service and will contribute to day-to-day operation of service. As a qualified nurse the post holder will lead the clinical operational team to deliver against the service requirement for interventions such as medicines management, medicines administration, non-medical prescribing (under thesupervision of the service's Clinical Lead and within Pennine Care and national policies), health checks as they relate to drugs and alcohol services.

The post holder will lead the multi-disciplinary team and to provide clinical expertise in a range of recovery and abstinence interventions with particular focus on the development and delivery of psycho-social interventions/psychologically informed interventions.

The post holder will provide strong leadership to SDAS to ensure it performs in the most efficient and effective way; ensuring key performance targets are met whilst providing a safe and efficient service.

The post holder will actively contribute to the overall operational management of the Stockport borough Drug and Alcohol Service (SDAS) and provide full line management to staff eg recruitment, absence manage and grievances.

Main Duties of the Job
  • To support the implementation and further development of the role of non-medical prescribing and clinical services in advancing nurse led health care within the service.
  • To support the development and implementation of nursing duties in theservice including vaccinations, detoxification services, health checks(appropriate to adult drug and alcohol service users), medicines management and administration (under Trust approved guidelines) and to participate in the delivery of these where necessary.
  • To act as an independent/supplementary prescriber in line with Trust policy and procedure.
  • To develop and promote the inclusion of psychologically informed practices within the workforce and develop the service's psychologically informed interventions offer.
  • To conduct and deliver supervision including psychological informedformulation supervision. Training can be provided for this if required.

Job Responsibilities
To act as a senior member of staff providing a range of effective, appropriate and evidence-based interventions to drug and alcohol users in the borough.

As a senior member of staff this will be focused on more complex serviceusers. This will include 1:1 key working session, case coordination, relapse prevention and psycho-social interventions.Responsibility for signing staff expenses and service invoices (within financial limits).

Administer injections under appropriate patient group directives and policies. This includes vaccinations and the administration of, for example, Depot Buprenorphine.

To carry out comprehensive assessments of clients, risk assessments and recovery and care planning in partnership with service users utilising a model that encompasses change, completion and reintegration phases of treatment.

Provide harm reduction education, training and advice particularly in relation to tolerance and overdose prevention.To provide interventions focusing on managing individuals recovery capital and to contribute to borough and national priorities such as reducing reoffending.To offer expert guidance and advice regarding child and adult safeguarding issues to service users, carers, junior staff and the wider community.

Ensure every opportunity is taken to achieve recovery and abstinenceincluding facilitation of community detoxification, and access to inpatient services where this is safe and appropriate, supporting visible recovery within the service and ensuring junior staff are practicing consistently within this recovery ethos.

To work collaboratively with other agencies (sector specific and mainstream) to ensure that services are coordinated and working collectively.

To provide verbal and written information to ensure service users can make informed choices about their recovery journey.

Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
Essential
  • Relevant professional qualification and registration e.g. RGN/RMN.
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification.
  • Evidence of recognised education and skills development in psychologically informed interventions/ PSI (as it relates to drug an alcohol work)
  • Immunisation and vaccination accreditation.

Desirable
  • Appropriate management qualification.

Experience

  • Experience of service delivery
  • Experience of staff management and supervisory responsibilities.

  • Expert knowledge of substitute prescribing management and clinical and non-clinical treatment interventions.
