Job summary
The post holder will provide clinical and operational leadership to an established and successful sexual health outreach team. The post holder will be responsible for overseeing the delivery and continued development of outreach services that improve access to sexual health care for underserved and vulnerable populations, helping to reduce health inequalities and improve health outcomes.

Working collaboratively with healthcare, social care and voluntary sector partners, the role will provide expert leadership, ensuring that individuals with complex needs receive high-quality, person-centred care. The post holder will support and develop the outreach workforce through effective management, clinical supervision and professional leadership, fostering a positive and resilient team culture.

Building on the strong foundations already established within the outreach service, the Senior Outreach Nurse Lead will identify opportunities for innovation, strengthen partnership working, and support the expansion of outreach initiatives to ensure services remain responsive to the needs of local communities. The role will be instrumental in maintaining high standards of care, demonstrating service impact, and supporting the delivery of local and national priorities aimed at improving sexual health outcomes for vulnerable and underserved populations

Main duties of the job
  • To work as a senior nurse flexibly across the city to undertake patient care activities in an outreach capacity
  • Line management of the Manchester outreach clinical and educational outreach teams
  • Safeguard our patients as per local and national policy.
  • To liaise closely with those who work with vulnerable young people and adults in particular, school health advisers, Our Children's nurses, mentors and those in the voluntary sector e.g. Manchester Action for Street Health, Our Room, LGBT+ Foundation, Youth Offending Team, Residential Care Workers, Youth Projects etc. to raise awareness of the sexual health needs of young people and adults and provide clinical services
  • Demonstrate effective leadership providing professional, clinical and management oversight to the outreach team.

What is a DBS Check?
A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:

Standard DBS: Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.

Enhanced DBS: Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police thats considered relevant to the role.

Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the childrens and/or adults barred lists.

Who Needs a DBS Check
Most roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.

The Costs for a DBS
At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

  • Current and in-depth knowledge of contraception and sexual health

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the concept of clinical and shared governance.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of quality improvement strategies

Experience
Essential
  • Current experience of working in an integrated sexual health service
  • Current/recent experience of working in an outreach capacity with young people and adults at risk with care and support needs.
  • Team management/leadership
  • Liaising with agencies who work with young people and adults at risk with care and support needs i.e., social care, education, police, justice, voluntary sector organisations
  • Ability to work using patient group directions and understands integrated care pathways

Desirable
