An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Maintenance Manager to join a well-established Estates and Facilities team based in East Kilbride.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across a wide range of mechanical and electrical building services, plant, equipment and estate infrastructure.

This is a key management position, providing leadership to a multi-skilled maintenance team while ensuring high standards of service delivery, health and safety and contractual compliance are maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the delivery of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across mechanical and electrical systems, plant, equipment, buildings and estate infrastructure.
  • Lead and manage a multi-skilled maintenance team, including supervisors, engineers, tradespeople, maintenance assistants and support staff.
  • Manage the team's day-to-day operational activities, ensuring workloads are effectively planned, prioritised and delivered.
  • Ensure all maintenance and engineering services are delivered in accordance with agreed service specifications, contractual requirements and performance standards.
  • Monitor the performance of the maintenance team, providing leadership, support and direction to ensure operational objectives are achieved.
  • Work closely with senior management, clients and key stakeholders to provide technical advice and support on estates, facilities and engineering matters.
  • Attend operational review meetings and contribute to discussions regarding service delivery, performance, maintenance requirements and improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain effective client and stakeholder relationships, attending meetings and providing regular updates on operational and technical matters.
  • Manage expenditure and financial commitments within agreed delegated budgets.
  • Monitor budget performance, identify potential cost pressures and financial risks, and provide appropriate reports and updates to management.
  • Support financial planning, forecasting, KPI reporting, works order reporting and general cost control activities.
  • Ensure full compliance with relevant Health & Safety legislation and company procedures across all maintenance and engineering activities.
  • Implement and maintain appropriate risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
  • Manage and monitor Permit to Work and Access Permit procedures, ensuring all relevant processes are followed correctly.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are carried out safely and efficiently, with appropriate controls in place for higher-risk activities.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, facilities and operational teams to resolve technical issues and maintain continuity of service.
  • Monitor maintenance performance and ensure planned and reactive works are completed within required timescales and agreed service levels.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery, operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure appropriate records, reports and documentation are maintained in line with operational and contractual requirements.

On-Call Responsibilities:

  • Participate in a 1-in-4 on-call rota, providing out-of-hours support when required.
  • The on-call period runs from Friday to Friday, with the role primarily involving telephone support and responding to operational queries.
  • On-call payments are based on an hourly rate equivalent to approximately nine sessions per rota period, with an estimated additional payment of around £2,000 per year.
  • Any additional hours worked above the standard on-call provision are paid at applicable overtime rates.
  • A full driving licence is required to support on-call responsibilities.

Additional Allowances & Development:

  • The successful candidate will have the opportunity to undertake additional training and development to support progression within the role.
  • An allowance of approximately £1,000 per year is available for relevant Appointed Person (AP) responsibilities relating to medical gas systems.
  • Additional AP responsibilities covering mechanical systems and ventilation may be available following completion of the relevant training and courses.
  • The organisation offers a strong focus on ongoing professional development and training opportunities.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years' technical management experience within estates, facilities management, engineering or building services.
  • Minimum HND qualification in a relevant Building Services or Engineering subject.
  • Strong technical knowledge and understanding of mechanical and electrical building services maintenance.
  • Experience managing and leading multi-skilled technical teams.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe working practices.
  • Experience with risk assessments, method statements and Permit to Work systems.
  • Understanding of financial management, budget control and cost monitoring.
  • Experience with KPI reporting, forecasting and works order reporting.
  • Good understanding of financial performance and P&L principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Good level of numeracy, with the ability to understand budgets, expenditure and financial information.
  • Strong IT skills with good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with clients, customers, colleagues and external contractors.
    Full driving licence.
The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete an Enhanced DBS check as part of the recruitment process.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary of £46,000 – £50,000.
  • Monday to Friday working hours, 8:00am – 4:00pm.
  • 1-in-4 on-call rota with additional payments.
  • Opportunities to gain additional AP responsibilities and associated allowances.
