Job Overview

About The Role

At AO, we want to make sure our customers are happy. When they have a smile on their face, we know we’ve done a good job. Did you know we have more 5* Trustpilot reviews than any other UK electrical retailer? We're rated ‘Excellent’ overall and have over 1 million customer reviews!

But what happens when our customers appliances reach the end of their life? That's where AO Recycling comes in - a business built on innovation, sustainability and finding better ways to do things every single day.

Every year, thousands of fridges, washing machines and other large domestic appliances need responsible recycling. At our specialist recycling facilities in Telford, we’re turning yesterday's appliances into tomorrow's resources, recovering valuable materials, reducing waste and helping build a more sustainable future.

We're looking for a People Partner, based at our Telford site and reporting to the Group Recycling Director. You'll be a trusted advisor to the leadership team, helping shape the people agenda, from developing leaders and building capability to driving engagement, performance and culture, you'll play a key role in helping our teams thrive and our business grow.

This isn't a role for someone who likes sitting on the sidelines. We need someone who's curious, commercially minded and loves being close to the action. Someone who enjoys building relationships, influencing decisions and rolling their sleeves up to solve problems.

Most importantly, you'll help create an environment where our AOers can be at their best, because when our people succeed, our business does too.

Our people are our superpower, and we’re unstoppable when we’re together! We want your ideas to flow, and what better way to make that happen than being based onsite, 5 days a week, where our culture fuels creativity, collaboration and growth.

Here’s What You Can Expect To Be Doing

  • Partnering with the Recycling Leadership Team to develop and deliver people plans that support business objectives and future growth.
  • Building strong, trusted relationships with managers at all levels, providing coaching, challenge and support when they need it most.
  • Supporting managers create high-performing teams through effective performance management, engagement and development initiatives.
  • Enable line managers to be the best they can, through coaching, guidance and expert support
  • Develop people initiatives which support business priorities, through your commercially focused support and problem solving
  • Using people data and insight to identify trends, solve problems and improve business performance.
  • Supporting organisational change and helping teams navigate through periods of growth and transformation.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to attract and retain talent across sites
  • Driving talent development, identifying talent gaps and working proactively to address them
  • Lead, coach and develop a People Advisor
  • Champion engagement, wellbeing and a positive, inclusive culture
  • Working collaboratively across the full people team on supporting business wide activities

A Few Things About You

  • You’ve worked in a People Partnering role and know how to balance people priorities with commercial outcomes, in a fast‑paced environment
  • You’re all about relationships, making time to get to know people, quickly creating a reputation as a trusted partner
  • Experience of working with and building positive Trade Union relationships
  • Pragmatic, resilient and comfortable with ambiguity, able to manage competing priorities at pace.
  • Be able to understand data quickly, with the ability to turn insight into action
  • Have a passion for continuous improvement to truly make a difference
  • You will have buckets of determination, resourcefulness, and resilience
  • You love to get stuck in and make a difference no matter what the day brings

A Bit About Us

We’re big on appliances and electricals, REALLY big. Washing machines, fridge freezers and TVs? They’re our bread and butter. Mobiles, Airwraps and Ring doorbells? Yep, those too. If it plugs in, powers up or makes life easier, AO probably has it.

But we’re more than that… For over 25 years, trust has been at the heart of everything we do, helping us become the UK’s most trusted electrical retailer. Our customers rate us 4.9 on Trustpilot from nearly ONE MILLION reviews and more 5-star ratings than any other UK electrical retailer, because they know they can rely on us and it’s the exact same for our AOers too.

We truly believe it’s more than just a job, we genuinely care about each other and our impact on making our customers lives easier, by helping them brilliantly. Everyone here knows how their role makes a difference. Our people are our superpower, so, when it comes to finding new AOers, we know it’s about more than just a CV, it’s about what makes you, YOU.
