1:1 SEND/SEMH Tutor - Opportunities Available from September 2026 Location: Wokingham Hours: Part-Time, Flexible Pay: Competitive hourly rate (dependent on experience) Start Date: Immediate referrals available and from September Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with SEND and SEMH needs? We are working in close partnership with a Pupil Referral Unit in Wokingham to provide specialist 1:1 tuition and mentoring support for pupils across Berkshire and the surrounding areas. Due to an increasing number of referrals, we are looking for compassionate, dedicated, and experienced SEND/SEMH Tutors to join our growing team. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support pupils who are unable to access mainstream education, helping them to re-engage with learning, build confidence, and achieve positive educational outcomes through tailored, individualised support. About the Role As a 1:1 SEND/SEMH Tutor, you will deliver face-to-face tuition and support to primary and secondary-aged pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Tuition sessions may take place in: * The pupils home * Community settings such as libraries or learning hubs * Other suitable educational environments You will be responsible for: * Planning and delivering engaging, individualised 1:1 tuition sessions. * Adapting your approach to meet each pupils unique learning style, needs, and abilities. * Supporting pupils with both academic progress and emotional wellbeing. * Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils and their families. * Helping pupils develop confidence, resilience, motivation, and independence. * Implementing strategies to overcome barriers to learning and encourage engagement with education. * Monitoring pupil progress and providing session feedback and reports where required. Who Youll Be Supporting You will work with pupils presenting with a variety of needs, including: * Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) * Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs * Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) * ADHD * Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) * Anxiety and other mental health needs * Behavioural challenges * Communication and interaction needs * Moderate and complex learning difficulties Many of the pupils we support have become disengaged from mainstream education and require a patient, flexible, and nurturing approach to help them rediscover a love of learning. What Were Looking For Were keen to hear from Tutors who have: * Experience working with children and young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs. * The ability to deliver personalised 1:1 support that meets both academic and pastoral needs. * A good understanding of neurodiversity and additional learning needs. * Strong communication and relationship-building skills. * A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach. * Experience supporting pupils who may be reluctant to engage with education. * The ability to create a safe, positive, and encouraging learning environment.
