About the Role

Akkodis is hiring Product Safety Engineers to support safety-critical programmes across complex and highly regulated defence environments.

Several project areas are available, including secure communications and cyber systems, above-water platforms, underwater systems and wider systems-of-systems integration. Project allocation will be based on each candidate’s technical background and experience.

You will work alongside engineering teams, Safety Authorities and Project Design Authorities to identify potential hazards, manage safety risks and produce the evidence required to demonstrate that complex products and systems are acceptably safe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate hazard identification, analysis and risk-assessment activities.
  • Produce safety cases, safety arguments and supporting safety artefacts.
  • Maintain hazard logs and track safety actions through to completion.
  • Develop and manage product-safety requirements throughout the engineering lifecycle.
  • Support compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and safety standards.
  • Coordinate safety evidence and deliverables across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Work closely with Safety, Technical and Project Design Authorities.
  • Support the planning, costing and estimation of product-safety activities.
  • Act as the Product Safety point of contact for assigned projects where required.

Required Experience

  • Previous experience in Product Safety, System Safety or a closely related engineering-safety role.
  • Strong understanding of Product Safety Management processes.
  • Practical experience in hazard identification, risk assessment and safety management.
  • Experience producing safety cases, safety arguments or supporting safety evidence.
  • Knowledge of relevant product-safety legislation, regulations and standards.
  • Experience supporting complex platforms, integrated systems or systems-of-systems.
  • Background in defence, aerospace or another highly regulated, safety-critical industry.
  • Experience with techniques such as FMEA/FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis, HAZOP and ALARP assessments.

Experience in secure communications, cyber, above-water platforms or underwater systems would be particularly beneficial.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent technical report-writing and presentation skills.
  • Confident stakeholder communication across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to explain complex safety risks clearly.
  • Organised approach to managing evidence, actions and project deliverables.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or another relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Relevant Product or System Safety training.
