Specialty Doctor in Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery Taunton

Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialty Doctor in Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery to join Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will become part of a highly regarded multidisciplinary team, delivering specialist Upper GI and bariatric services within a busy tertiary referral centre while contributing to emergency general surgery, teaching, audit and research activities. Main duties of the job * Work as a member of the multidisciplinary Upper GI & Bariatric team to provide specialist Upper GI & Bariatric services for outpatients and on the wards. To work flexibly with the 5 Consultants to ensure cover for wards, outpatient clinics and operating lists. * Play a full part in the provision of surgical services, potentially including scheduled out of hours work and resident/non-resident on-call duties on a rota basis with colleagues. * Be involved in the development and planning of surgical services within the Trust. * Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients. * Participate in audit examining activity, quality and cost of the surgical service. Person Specification Qualifications Essential * MBBS or recognized equivalent * MRCS Desirable * FRCS Experience Essential * Full GMC Registration with licence to practice * A minimum of 2 years full time hospital service in SHO or higher grade on a surgical training program * Able to carry out the duties described in the job. Desirable * Experience at registrar level in general surgery. * Teaching of junior medical staff and/or nursing staff.
