Job description

We are recruiting for a part‑time Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Learning Disability Service, based in Oxford. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key leadership role within a well‑established multidisciplinary service supporting adults with learning disabilities across Oxfordshire. You will provide senior clinical leadership, delivering high‑quality, person‑centred care while working collaboratively with a skilled team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, therapists and partner agencies. The role offers a varied caseload, involving complex assessments, treatment planning and clinical supervision, alongside opportunities to contribute to service development, teaching and quality improvement. As part of a forward‑thinking Trust with strong links to the University of Oxford, you will benefit from a culture that values innovation, continuous learning and clinical excellence. We offer rewarding career development with protected SPA time as part of your job plan, encouraging you to take leadership courses to enhance your skills. We also offer a relocation allowance of up to £8,000 for external applicants (subject to eligibility criteria). For applicants who have not yet obtained CCT, we are able to offer the Portfolio pathway (formerly known as CESR) | The Federation to support you in developing your consultant career at Oxford Health.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior medical input and clinical leadership to the Learning Disability Team (LDT). Medical responsibility for patients usually remains with the GP, except where a medical member of the LDT takes a patient on for continuing treatment. • Work alongside the Team Manager and the other Consultant Psychiatrists in the Community LDTs to ensure the effective functioning and development of the service.
  • Contribute to the collection of data as required by the Trust and other relevant agencies. This includes the timely recording of clinical activity data, and participation in clinical audit with appropriate administrative support.
  • Attend most regular directorate managerial meeting as necessary, particularly Joint Consultant Committee, Medical Staff Committee and Directorate/Managerial liaison meeting.
  • Participate in and attend the local training programme for junior doctors, aCPD peer group and a clinical supervision group with fellow consultants.
  • Maintain your own programme of training and CPD accreditation with the support of their Lead consultant/Associate Medical Director/Clinical Director.

Benefits

  • Excellent opportunities for career progression
  • Access to tailored individual and Trust‑wide learning and development
  • 33 days annual leave, plus bank holidays, rising to 35 days with continuous service
  • NHS Discount across a wide range of shops, restaurants and retailers
  • Competitive pension scheme
  • Lease car scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Mental Health First Aiders
  • Staff accommodation (please note waiting lists apply)
  • Staff networking and support groups hosted by our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion team
