Job Summary

We have a fantastic opportunity for a new Salaried GP to join us, to help with our expanding list size and ambitious growth plans. We currently have over 8,600 patients.

You will be joining a busy, friendly, forward‑thinking GMS Practice that is based in the beautiful spa town of Buxton on the edge of the Peak District.

The role would ideally be between 4‑8 sessions per week, covering a wide range of GP services to our patients.

We have a dedicated team of 2 GP partners, 5 ANP's, 3 Practice Nurses and 2 HCA's, along with supportive admin/reception staff.

We have a CQC rating of Good and are a high QOF achiever. The surgery is part of the local PCN, with whom we have a positive working relationship.

Main Duties of the Job

  • The delivery of highly effective medical care with a variety of types of consultations.
  • Dealing with patient queries, test results, paperwork, reports and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Issuing and managing prescriptions.
  • Effective management of long‑term conditions.
  • Working on a rotational basis as an on‑call GP.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records as per good practice, policy and guidance.
  • Working collaboratively and ensuring an even distribution of the practice workload.
  • Identify, implement and embed best practice through clinical guidelines and through the use of audits.
  • As a salaried GP, you would also attend clinical meetings.
  • Commit to self‑learning and generate an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team.
  • Focus on the strategic aims of the practice, giving recommendations to improve income and expenditure.
  • Review and adhere to practice protocols and policies.

Job Description

Job Title: Salaried GP

Reports to: The Partnership/Practice Manager

Job Summary: The post‑holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. As a senior member of the team, you will be expected to set an example to others, assist in education and training and to play a full role in target achievement and service development.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Be available for a variety of duties including surgery, telephone and, where appropriate, video consultations; visiting patients at home and in nursing homes; checking and signing repeat/acute prescriptions; and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Cover all clinical management of the patients in surgery, initiating investigations, reviewing results, making referrals to secondary care or other providers as appropriate.
  • Develop care and treatment plans in consultation with patients, in line with current disease‑management protocols and wider guidance such as NICE.
  • Ensure appropriate follow‑up of patients.
  • Record clear and contemporaneous computerised consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Collect data for audit purposes.
  • Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions, avoiding handwritten prescriptions whenever possible.
  • Prescribe generically whenever appropriate and within the practice formulary, NICE guidance, Good Prescribing Practice or NHS guidelines.
  • Work with and support other primary health care team members to deliver high‑quality care.
  • Promote the application of standards and codes of practice set by the Royal College of General Practice, General Medical Council, Department of Health.
  • Play a leading role in achieving agreed QOF and other performance targets.
  • Take responsibility for targets and services allocated, such as QOF areas and Enhanced Services.

  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
  • Commit to achieving the highest possible quality standards such as QOF and other agreed KPI targets.
  • Comply with life‑long learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice.
  • Contribute to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.
  • Attend regular in‑house governance, educational meetings and training, and events with other agencies as appropriate.
  • Assist with training of other staff members and education of doctors and nurses in training as appropriate.
  • Carry out other duties or activities as agreed by the partners.

  • Use personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines.
  • Identify risks involved in work activities and undertake tasks in a way that manages those risks.
  • Make effective use of training to update knowledge and skills.
  • Use appropriate infection control procedures and maintain tidy, safe work areas free from hazards.

Qualifications – Essential

  • Registered with GMC registration.
