Finance Officer Role in an Outstanding Primary School

An Outstanding Primary School in Hackney is seeking to appoint a highly organised and motivated Finance Officer to join its dedicated administration team. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional to play a key role in supporting the effective financial management of a successful and thriving school.

About the Role

The successful candidate will provide essential financial support to the school, ensuring that day-to-day finance operations are completed accurately, efficiently, and in line with financial procedures.

Working closely with the School Business Manager and senior leadership team, you will assist with purchase orders, invoice processing, budget monitoring, reconciliations, supplier payments, and maintaining accurate financial records. You will also support with reporting requirements and ensure that financial information is managed with the highest level of accuracy and confidentiality.

This role would suit an organised and detail-focused finance professional who enjoys working as part of a busy school support team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process invoices, purchase orders, and supplier payments

  • Maintain accurate financial records and databases

  • Support budget monitoring and financial reporting

  • Complete regular financial reconciliations

  • Assist with payroll and audit preparation where required

  • Liaise with suppliers and external organisations

  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information

  • Ensure compliance with financial procedures, GDPR, and school policies

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience in a finance, accounts, or financial administration role

  • Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to manage confidential information professionally

  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience working within a school or educational setting

  • Knowledge of school finance systems such as FMS, PS Financials, or Access

  • AAT qualification or willingness to work towards one

  • Experience supporting budget management, payroll, or audits
