Attachments Learning Support Assistant (Specialist Support for a Deaf Student) We are seeking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to provide dedicated one-to-one support for a deaf student with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The successful candidate will deliver tailored British Sign Language (BSL) support, working closely with teaching staff, the SENDCo and Deputy SENDCo to ensure the student has full access to learning, effective communication, and the opportunity to fully participate in the wider school environment. The ideal candidate will have a good working knowledge of the education system and experience supporting young people, particularly those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). They will hold, as a minimum, a Grade 2 British Sign Language (BSL) qualification (essential), as well as Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths, or be able to demonstrate strong literacy and numeracy skills, alongside a willingness to further develop through ongoing training.
Good communication skills with pupils, staff, and parents are essential, along with strong organisational abilities and confidence in using ICT for record keeping and reporting. The successful applicant will be patient, calm, flexible, and resilient, able to manage challenging behaviour sensitively while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and a strong commitment to inclusion and equality. They should be able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team Working hours: 25 hours per week, Monday – Friday 9.15am – 3.15pm (includes 2 breaks totalling 1 hour).
