Job description

Main Purpose of the Role

Working within Perth & Kinross Council is more than a job, it's about being part of an organisation that puts people at the heart of all we do and provides opportunities to make a real difference by enhancing every life we touch.

We currently have the following opportunity:

Depute Head Teacher (School Improvement) - PKC14072
£78,696
Kinross High School

Kinross High School is seeking to appoint an exceptional and ambitious Depute Head Teacher who is committed to ensuring every young person achieves their full potential. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and forward-thinking Senior Leadership Team in a school that is ambitious for its learners and committed to continuous improvement, equity and excellence.

We are looking for an experienced educational leader with a strong track record of raising attainment and improving outcomes for young people. The successful candidate will have a clear understanding of how effective use of data can drive school improvement and support learners to achieve success. They will be skilled in gathering, analysing and interpreting a wide range of attainment and achievement information and will use this evidence to identify trends, inform strategic decision-making and target support where it is needed most.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping and delivering the school's vision and strategic priorities. They will lead on the development and implementation of robust systems for tracking and monitoring learner progress, ensuring that intervention strategies are timely, evidence-based and impactful. Working closely with staff, learners, parents and partners, they will promote a culture of rigor, aspiration and perseverance in which every young person is known, supported and challenged to succeed.

Our improvement priorities focus on identifying and addressing attainment gaps, embedding consistently high-quality learning and teaching experiences through the Kinross Way, and ensuring that learners' experiences are centred on human rights and individual needs. We are proud of our culture of collaboration, our strong relationships and our unwavering commitment to supporting every young person to achieve.

This position offers a significant opportunity for an ambitious and talented leader to make a lasting difference to the lives of young people and to contribute to the continued success and development of Kinross High School. If you have the vision, expertise and determination to use data intelligently, raise attainment and ensure every learner has the opportunity to fulfil their potential, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Please note, we are currently unable to offer sponsorship for this post.

Skills & Experience Required

The successful applicant will demonstrate a proven ability to raise attainment and close gaps in outcomes for learners.

You will have experience of leading improvement initiatives that have delivered measurable impact and will be confident in using data to evaluate performance, identify areas for development and drive sustainable change.

You will be an experienced and inspirational leader who can motivate and empower colleagues, foster strong relationships and build collective capacity for improvement.

Working at Perth & Kinross Council

We have a vision of a confident and ambitious Perth and Kinross, to which everyone can contribute and all can share.

Our values and behaviours influence our work and support us in the delivery of our key priorities. In your application, and should you be invited to interview, you will be asked to describe situations that support the criteria required in the role and which also demonstrate our values and behaviours. Find out more about Perth & Kinross Council and you could soon be joining our team!

Here's what we can offer you:

We recognise there can be benefits to flexible working and where individual jobs allow, we seek to support this. You are encouraged to discuss potential options with the recruiting manager, if this is of interest to you. A healthy work life balance is important to us and we provide supportive management and, where possible, flexible working arrangements to help you achieve that balance. You will have access to training and support for continued professional development.

All new employees have a four-month probationary period. Further details are available in the FAQs at “How to apply for a job or apprenticeship with us”.

Should you be invited to attend interview, you will be asked to provide 2 references, one of which must be your current or most recent employer. Therefore, when completing your application for this post, please ensure you provide contact details for two referees. If you are already employed as a teacher with Perth & Kinross Council, you are only required to provide 1 reference, which must be from your current Head Teacher.

As Perth & Kinross Council operates an open reference policy, the onus will be on you to provide us with your references.

Please note, as your references are required for the start of the interview process, it is important you approach your referees and ask them to complete and submit them by e-mail to recruitment@pkc.gov.uk PRIOR to the date of your interview. The job profile and reference template are attached to this advert for you to forward to your referees. You will not have access to them after the post has closed.

We welcome applications from everyone and as a Disability Confident employer, we guarantee to interview applicants who declare a disability and meet the essential requirements of the post. Please contact the hiring manager above or the Recruitment Team on (01738) 475555 or recruitment@pkc.gov.uk to discuss any reasonable adjustments. Appointments are based on evidence supplied during the selection process.

That includes welcoming applications from former armed forces personnel/reservists. Many of the skills picked up during your military career could be transferred directly into a role with local government.

Working with children and/or protected adults is regarded as a regulated role and under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020 you will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.

If you have lived overseas for a period of 12 months or more (continuous or total) within the last 10 years, whilst over the age of 18, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check.

GTCS registration is required.

A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of the above mentioned mandatory pre-employment checks (including references) and will also include eligibility to work in the UK, qualifications and fitness to undertake the post.
