Head of Tax - Brokerage

I am working with a Global Brokerage firm as they look for a Head of Tax to join the team and report into the FD, with exposure to the CFO & Partners.

You will ideally have broad experience across taxes including Corporate, Indirect & if you have Partnership Tax experience, this would be advantageous. You must be a commercial Tax Lead but be prepared to be hands on. You must be able to be in the office in East London 4 days a week.

• Provide strategic direction and oversight of global tax function across all corporate, partnership, partner-level and indirect taxes.
• Develop and embed a robust tax risk management, controls and reporting framework appropriate for an FCA-regulated, partner-owned international group.
• Act as the principal tax adviser to the Director of Finance, the CFO, and the wider partnership on structuring, profit sourcing, distributions and remuneration design.
• Maintain and continuously refresh tax strategy, ensuring alignment with the partnership agreement, the firm's commercial strategy and evolving regulatory expectations.
• Own global tax compliance cycle across corporate, partnership, partner and indirect taxes, ensuring all filings, computations and payments are accurate, complete and met on time in every jurisdiction in which we operate.
• Manage and strengthen relationships with our mainly Big 4 outsourced tax advisers, holding them to clear deliverables, timetables and quality standards.
• Lead the project management of outsourced compliance activities, ensuring scope, fees and outputs are well controlled and aligned with reporting timetable.
• Review and approve the group's corporate and partnership tax returns and related submissions before filing.
• Lead tax payment calculations, cash tax forecasting and the timely settlement of all corporate, partnership and partner liabilities globally.
• Manage tax audits, enquiries and investigations, maintaining constructive working relationships with HMRC and overseas tax authorities.
• Group structure rationalisation: lead the tax workstream on simplification opportunities across the legal and consolidation structures and legacy entities.
• Partnership taxes: own all UK and overseas partnership tax calculations, capital account tax reserves and partnership tax accounting.
• Partner tax experience: act as a trusted point of contact on all matters affecting partners' tax residency, tax basis, equalisation and compliance - including UK Basis Period Reform, US partner reporting and overseas mobility.
• Trust arrangements: oversee tax aspects of existing trust structures and any updates or restructures.
• Dividend flows and profit sourcing: advise on the tax efficiency of profit sourcing and dividend repatriation across the group.
• Monthly tax provisioning: own the corporate and partnership tax provisioning process within the group management accounts cycle.
• Audit of tax: lead the tax and deferred tax calculations and disclosures for the group financial statements, and manage the external auditors' review of tax.
• Systems, processes and controls: design and maintain the documentation, controls and policies that support a clean external tax audit and demonstrate strong governance.
• Transfer pricing policy: maintain global transfer pricing policy, master file and local files, and refresh as the group evolves.
• Interoffice service agreements: review and update interoffice agreements and ensure they are aligned with operational reality and current TP guidance.
• Cost recharging: own the cost recharging methodology for group overhead, global service recharges, and other recurring intra-group flows.
• Advise on the tax implications of new office openings, new markets, M&A activity, structural change and contract design.
• Horizon-scan global tax legislation changes and translate them into clear, actionable implications.
• Partner with Finance, Legal, HR and the broking desks to embed tax considerations into commercial decision making without slowing the business down.
• Continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the tax function - systems, automation, data quality and adviser leverage.
