Job summaryWe are delighted to be in a position of being able to recruit a Childrens Wellbeing Practitioner within our established and innovative Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Service within Gateshead.
We are looking for an individual who has the ability to both deliver high quality low intensity CBT interventions and help develop the skills and knowledge of universal practitioners in children and young peoples mental health.
The skilled individuals will join one of the multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of interventions that identify mental health difficulties at the earliest stage, and facilitate the provision of services that promote resilience, and enable positive mental health.
Main duties of the jobThe main purpose of the role is to work as a member of Gatesheads Getting Help Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Service, mental health assessment and interventions to Children and Young People.
This includes the direct provision of evidence based, low intensity, outcome focused standards of care to children, young people and families.
We expect the post holder to have sound children and young peoples mental health knowledge and skills.
You will have the aptitude, motivation and enthusiasm for working within a groundbreaking service.
You must have:
- A Childrens Wellbeing Practitioner (Post Graduate Diploma) qualification
- Registration with an appropriate governing body, i.e. BABCP (British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists), BPS(British Psychological Society) as a Childrens Wellbeing Practitioner, or working towards registration and successfully registered within the first six months of appointment.
- Experience of working to support the mental health needs of children, young people and families
- Experience of working within a community context
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other associated IT packages.
- Proven organisational skills and proven time and caseload management skills.

To work as a member of the Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Services in South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust providing a Getting Help mental health service to children and young people.
This includes the direct provision of evidence-based interventions and outcome focused standards of care to children and families/carers.
The delivery of high quality training, consultation, and support to other staff.
The service will be delivered from Community bases as an integral part of an agreed iTHRIVE multi-agency model of Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Service provision.
Work collaboratively with multi professional teams to ensure practice is efficient, effective, evidence based and safe.
This will be achieved by:
- Listening to and understanding the community.
- Bringing people together to develop a shared local vision with service users as equal partners.
- Assessing community assets, resources, needs and issues.
- Empowering community members to identify local issues and articulate solutions.
- Linking in with Community Mental Health Services (i.e. CYPS, IAPT, CTT)

Person SpecificationSkills and KnowledgeEssential- Ability to carry out clinical and risk assessments with children, young people and their families
- Knowledge of universal and specialist childrens mental health service provision.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other associated IT packages.
- Proven organisational skills.
- Proven time and caseload management skills.
- Able to write clear reports and letters. Demonstrates a high standard in both written and oral communication.
- Ability to engage vulnerable and underserved populations.
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to work flexibly in a variety of environments.
- Ability to work under supervision and make good use of the supervisory process for personal and clinical development.
- Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how this may present in children and young people.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the need for evidence based psychological therapies.
- An understanding of the mental health needs of children, young people and their families.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and the promotion of welfare in children.

QualificationsEssential- Post Graduate Childrens Wellbeing Practitioner Diploma ( or if current trainee, to have successfully achieved this qualification within 6 months of appointment ).
- Registration with an appropriate governing body, i.e. BABCP(British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists), BPS(British Psychological Society) as a Childrens Wellbeing Practitioner, or working towards registration and successfully registered within the first six months of appointment.
Desirable- Additional post graduate qualification in Children and Young Peoples Mental Health, therapeutic training or other relevant area.
- Recognised supervision certificate.
