Job description

A Vacancy at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Your expertise can change lives. At Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, we believe in care that goes beyond treatment—it’s about compassion, respect, and trust. If you’re ready to make a real difference, we’d love you to join us as a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist in our Low Secure and Community Forensic Directorate.

This is an opportunity to work at the heart of our community, supporting people through their recovery journey and helping them build brighter futures. You’ll be part of a team that values collaboration, innovation, and inclusion, delivering care across a range of specialist services:

  • Community Forensic Service
  • Inpatient services at Wells Road Centre

Why You’ll Love Working With Us

  • Our Values in Action: We put people first—patients and colleagues alike. Compassion and respect aren’t just words; they’re how we work every day.
  • Support That Matters: From structured mentoring for new consultants to a strong peer network, you’ll never feel alone in your role.
  • Flexibility: Full-time is ideal, but we’re open to conversations about flexible working.
  • Growth Opportunities: Access our academic programme, CPD sessions, and annual appraisals to keep your skills sharp and your career moving forward.

What Your Role Looks Like

The post-holder will have consultant responsibilities for a caseload of up to 14 in inpatient and 8 community‑based patients. Some of these patients will be subject to Mental Health Act (MHA) provisions (conditionally discharged, guardianship or CTO). Care co‑ordination is provided by community psychiatric nurses, occupational therapists or mental health practitioners. You will have specific consultant responsibility predominantly for patients across Nottinghamshire.

  • Provide high‑quality, evidence‑based care to patients in the community and in an inpatient setting.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective treatment.
  • Take part in service development and academic programmes.
  • Uphold professional standards and contribute to the efficient running of services.

#TeamNottsHC comprises over 11,000 dedicated colleagues who #MakeADifference every day. We deliver intellectual disability, mental health, community health, forensic, and offender healthcare services across Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, and South Yorkshire. Our care is provided from over 200 sites, spanning community locations, acute settings, and secure environments, including prisons.

We are one of the largest mental health and community Trusts in the East Midlands and one of Nottinghamshire's biggest employers. We also host national and regional services, such as the National High Secure Deaf Service and the Nottingham Centre for Transgender Health.

We offer a variety of employee‑led staff networks, including Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) groups, the Green Champions network, the Freedom to Speak Up network, the Health and Wellbeing Champions network, and the Menopause Champions network.

The health and wellbeing of our colleagues is a top priority. We invest significantly in this through our in‑house occupational health and staff counselling services, supported by a dedicated Health and Wellbeing team.

The Trust is committed to reducing its carbon emissions, with a specialised Energy and Environmental team working to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, enhance our environmental performance, and achieve our net‑zero commitment.

What We’re Looking For

  • GMC specialist registration in Forensic Psychiatry (or within 6 months of CCT).
  • Approved Clinician status and Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act.
  • A commitment to our values and to delivering outstanding care.
