Job description
SEND Learning Support Assistant – Alnwick (Full-Time)

Make every school day feel more accessible, positive and achievable for learners who need the right support.

Protocol Education is recruiting a full-time SEND Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Alnwick. You'll support pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them access learning, develop independence and build the confidence to take part in school life.

You'll provide consistent support in the classroom, during interventions and throughout the wider school day. By getting to know each learner's strengths, needs and communication style, you'll help create an environment where pupils feel safe, included and ready to learn.

Why work with Protocol Education?

Great support staff deserve great support too. We'll take the time to understand your experience and the type of school where you'll work best, then support you from registration through to placement and beyond.

You'll receive:

  • Weekly PAYE pay, with no umbrella companies
  • FREE access to our online CPD Academy
  • SEND, Autism Awareness and Behaviour Management training
  • A dedicated local consultant
  • Long-term and permanent opportunities
  • Career progression support
  • Regular wellbeing check-ins

What you'll be doing

  • Providing tailored 1:1 support during lessons
  • Supporting small-group learning and targeted interventions
  • Adapting activities to meet individual learning needs
  • Encouraging communication, confidence and independence
  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Helping pupils develop social and practical skills
  • Building positive and trusting relationships
  • Working collaboratively with teachers and specialist staff
  • Celebrating progress and individual achievements

What we're looking for

You'll be caring, patient and able to adapt your approach to suit different learners. You'll understand that consistency, encouragement and strong relationships can make a huge difference.

You'll also be:

  • Approachable and encouraging
  • Calm under pressure
  • A clear and confident communicator
  • Reliable and proactive
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Passionate about inclusive education

Experience in education, care, youth work, coaching or support work is welcomed, but a positive attitude and willingness to learn are equally important.

Who this role would suit

  • Teaching Assistants
  • Learning Support Assistants
  • Support Workers
  • Care Professionals
  • Youth Workers
  • Psychology Graduates

Apply today and help learners build the confidence and skills they need to thrive.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
