Job Description

The roleWe are looking for an experienced Environment and Health Assessment Advisor to provide expert advice and undertake impact assessments for NRW's projects and plans.

This includes Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Health Impact Assessment (HIA), ensuring environmental and health considerations are embedded in decision-making.You will work on a varied and high-profile portfolio of projects, including Flood Risk Management, Coastal Adaptation, Metal Mine Remediation, River Restoration, Peatland Restoration and River Basin Management Plans, helping to deliver positive outcomes for Wales' environment and communities.Working within multidisciplinary project and plan teams, you will provide trusted advice and influence decision-making across NRW.

Reporting to the Environment and Health Assessment Team Leader, you will collaborate with colleagues across the organisation and within the wider team, sharing knowledge, promoting best practice and supporting the delivery of sustainable, high-quality projects and plans.Driving is essential to this role.

You must hold a full and current UK driving license as you will be required to visit sites that can be remote and inaccessible by public transport.As an organisation we support flexible working.

You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment.

Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.This is a fixed-term role up until the end of March 2027.To make an informal enquiry about this role, please contact Vicky Schlottmann atInterviews will take place through Microsoft Teams.What you will do Undertake or manage delivery of environmental and /or health assessments making complex determinations and decision making for your area of technical expertise in order to influence the development and design of your portfolio of projects and plans.

You will carry out appropriate technical assessment in accordance with NRW policies and procedures.Assist the Team Leader in the development of environmental and health assessment guidance for NRW staff and for sectors/partners.Liaise with external stakeholders such as Welsh Government, sector representatives and partners to ensure the timely and effective delivery of project, policy or strategy obligations.Represent the Environmental & Health Assessment team on relevant internal technical groups, and internal/external stakeholder and sector meetings.Commission and manage specialist consultants to undertake assessments and surveys within agreed cost, time and quality thresholds.Support engagement with sectors, partners, WG, JNCC and other Environment bodies in the UK; and be the lead point of contact for customer queries.Contribute to task and finish groups, commissioned through the Integrated Approaches Programme Board, to prepare defined products as required.Collaborate with the Team Leader to develop and deliver an agreed Personal Development Plan.Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the postBe committed to Natural Resources Wales Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy , together with an understanding of how it operates within the responsibilities of the postBe committed to your own development through the effective use of your personal development plan (known as Sgwrs).Required to take part in incident response activities.Any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skillsIn your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method.

Knowledge of: Welsh, UK and EU legislation related to SEA, EIA, HIA, Town and Country Planning, Habitats Regulations Assessment; WFD; Welsh & UK Governments policy drivers in SMNR, EIA, SEA and SA; and the issues and opportunities in Wales.Competent expert in impact assessment, reflected in chartered membership of of a relevant professional institution (e.g ISEP)Experience of: Working at a national, UK and international level managing a portfolio of projects and plans related to environmental and/or health assessment.In-depth understanding of the impact assessment disciplines and the complex range of drivers and barriers to delivery.Working in impact assessment at an operational and strategic level across the technical discipline.Working in a programme and project management environment with Project Management experience and/or qualifications.Share your knowledge and expertise to help solve problems, supporting all Heads of Business in SPE as required.Welsh Language level requirements Essential: Level A1
