Job description
Young People Support Worker An excellent opportunity for a compassionate, creative and resilient Young People Support Worker to deliver trauma-informed support that helps girls and young women build confidence, improve wellbeing, develop healthy relationships and reduce vulnerability to harm. SALARY: £26,278 per annum + Benefits LOCATION: Sandwell, West Midlands with travel across the Black Country JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent WORKING HOURS: 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm JOB OVERVIEW We have a great opportunity for a Young People Support Worker to join a Children and Families service, delivering early intervention and prevention support for girls and young women aged 11–19 across Sandwell. As the Young People Support Worker, you will provide one-to-one interventions, groupwork and advocacy for young women who may be affected by trauma, emotional wellbeing concerns, exploitation, challenging behaviours or involvement with the criminal justice system. Working within a contextual safeguarding framework, the Young People Support Worker will build trusted relationships, strengthen protective factors and work closely with schools, children’s services, youth justice, police, health services and voluntary sector partners. DUTIES Your duties as the Young People Support Worker include: • One-to-One Support: Deliver trauma-informed, strengths-based interventions that help young women build confidence, resilience, self-esteem and emotional wellbeing • Groupwork Delivery: Support the planning and delivery of group programmes covering healthy relationships, coping strategies, exploitation awareness, personal safety and positive future planning • Safeguarding and Risk: Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, contextual risks, harmful peer relationships, online harms and community-based risks • Assessment and Planning: Complete assessments, outcome measures, risk assessments and support plans that remain young person-centred and responsive to need • Advocacy and Guidance: Provide emotional support, practical guidance and advocacy, empowering young women to make informed choices and access appropriate services • Partnership Working: Liaise with schools, children’s services, youth justice, police, health services and partner agencies to coordinate effective support • Records and Compliance: Maintain accurate case notes, support plans and monitoring information in line with organisational requirements and GDPR legislation • Service Development: Promote young women’s voices, participation and feedback to support service design, delivery and evaluation CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL • Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010 applies. The post holder must be female. • GCSEs English and Mathematics, Grade C or above • Minimum NVQ Level 3 in a relevant subject, preferably working with children • Experience working with children or young people, including recognising safeguarding concerns and responding appropriately • Experience handling a caseload and delivering one-to-one interventions for young people • Experience using risk assessment and intervention tools to identify, assess and manage risk • Experience preparing accurate case notes and reports based on fact and professional judgement • Understanding of trauma-informed approaches, safeguarding, the gendered nature of violence and issues affecting children and young people impacted by abuse or exploitation • Able to use Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Teams and other virtual platforms • Able to engage young people experiencing trauma through creative, dynamic and age-appropriate interventions • A client-centred, non-judgemental and anti-discriminatory approach, with resilience and strong professional boundaries • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle • Eligibility to work in the UK BENEFITS • Mileage allowance • Training and development opportunities • Employee Assistance Programme • Access to group clinical supervision • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata) • Wellbeing day • Pension scheme with employer contribution • Time off in lieu for additional hours worked This role requires a DBS check APPLY TODAY… By submitting your job application to us you are hereby giving us your express consent to submit your details to our Client for this purpose.
