Job overview

The SORT Operations Manager will work to their respective scope of clinical practice. Operational management will be spent supporting the Locality Manager in ensuring the continuous provision of a safe and effective service.

Be responsible for the operational leadership and supervision of a defined group of staff.

Provide proactive and reactive operational leadership as a role model and commander (usually at the Operational level, though development at the Tactical level may be supported) at operational incidents, in line with the Civil Contingencies Act and as required to support the wider unscheduled care system.

Base can be discussed which may be North or South Wales.

Main duties of the job

Managing on-going relationships with other emergency services and local authorities to maintain collaborative working.

Engaging with key stakeholders, staff, managers and trade unions to optimise service delivery.

Managing stakeholder’s expectations and proactively creating opportunities to improve, change and streamline processes.

Ensuring you are personally up to date and fully conversant with the Trust’s major and serious incident plans, specific contingency plans and all relevant local and national training required by the role.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As part of a team, the post holder will support the general running of the locality in conjunction with the Locality Manager or as directed. The post holder will need to be able to provide leadership, management, support and guidance to any operational staff members from across teams within a health board area at any time and holding staff to account in real time where appropriate.

Undertaking Operational Commander role & responsible for attending incidents to provide visible operational leadership in times of high escalation and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of staff and responders.

Undertaking an operational command role in the event of a business continuity incident, extraordinary incident, major incident and/or critical incident, or situation within the Trust as required by the Tactical Commander.

Have delegated responsibility for the delivery of local delivery/action plans to support the Directorate Delivery Plan (LDP), also contribute towards development of future LDPs. Meeting a range of contractual standards, KPIs, locally agreed indicators, quality standards, holding teams to account.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • A full UK manual driving licence with C1 category.
  • A degree level of education, or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving (CERAD)/ IHCD Ambulance Emergency Driving
  • Level 4 Diploma for Associate Ambulance Practitioners/IHCD Ambulance Aid
  • JESIP trained, or able to complete JESIP training which can be provided
  • Qualified in the SORT Skill set or prepared to work towards.
  • Commit to the WAST ON call NILO Rota
  • Ability to demonstrate visible leadership in challenging and stressful situations.
Desirable criteria
  • Presenting complex, sensitive or contentious information to internal and external groups.

  • Experience of working with a diverse range of stakeholders
