Are you passionate about helping children and young people with additional needs achieve their full potential?

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Oldham from September. This is an opportunity to become part of a highly supportive team making a genuine difference to the lives of pupils with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).

Whether you have previous SEN experience or have worked in care, support work, youth work or education, this role offers the chance to develop your skills within a rewarding specialist setting where every achievement matters.

This specialist provision supports pupils aged 4-19 years, providing a tailored and nurturing learning environment designed to meet a wide range of communication, sensory and learning needs.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom. Working closely with teaching staff and therapists, you will help deliver individualised support that enables pupils to engage with learning, develop social skills and achieve personal milestones.

No two days are the same, making this a highly rewarding position for someone who is patient, adaptable and committed to supporting young people with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with a range of SEN needs
  • Deliver 1:1 and small-group learning interventions
  • Support pupils using communication strategies such as PECS, visual timetables and AAC systems
  • Promote positive behaviour through consistency, encouragement and de-escalation techniques
  • Assist pupils in developing social, emotional and independence skills
  • Support sensory regulation and engagement throughout the school day
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and families to achieve positive outcomes
  • Assist with personal care where required, including toileting, feeding and mobility support
  • Help maintain a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
