Job summary
Part-time 30 Hours per week or Hours Negotiable.

Worcestershire Community Dental Services is a county-wide service seeing patients on a referral basis; our patients have additional needs such as being medically compromised, phobias, special needs, autism, looked-after adults and children. We are looking for a Qualified Dental nurse who is also a friendly, reliable, and understanding individual who wants to make a difference to the dental care we deliver to our patients. We cover dentistry in patients homes, hospitals and clinic-based settings. The role is based Worcester; however, there is a requirement to travel countywide. We offer treatment via sedation local and general anaesthetics. You will work alongside consultants and specialists and highly experienced dental clinicians, therapists, nurses and receptionists. In our most recent CQC evaluation, the community dental team were rated outstanding for caring.

Please note the Trust will not routinely provide sponsorship to work for this role. Employment on a time limited visa doesn't guarantee sponsorship at point of expiry.

Main duties of the job
Your primary responsibility will be to provide clinical support in a wide range of treatments for a broad client base, extended duties would be a distinct advantage but not essential. We would like you to have a welcoming and positive approach for our patients and be an upbeat and reliable member of the team, be able to work well in challenging situations and maintain excellent cross infection.

Our clinical sessions run Monday to Friday 8:45 to 12.30 and 13.15 to 17.00

Undertake surgery duties on a daily basis with occasional reception duties associated with the needs of Worcestershire Community Dental Service.

Work at clinics across Worcestershire.

Registered with the General Dental Council and ensure maintenance of this registration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical
Your primary responsibility will be to provide clinical support in a wide range of treatments for a broad client base

Assist patients to and from the surgery and prepare them for clinical inspection and treatment

Update computerised patient records dictated under guidance of the Dentist and/or Therapist as required.

Be responsible for the efficient decontamination, disinfection, sterilisation and maintenance of dental instruments and equipment

Have a welcoming and positive approach for our patients and provide physical and emotional support.

Attend general anaesthetic sessions

Provide support to Dentists and/or Therapists whilst undertaking epidemiological surveys.

Accompany Dentists and/or Therapists on domiciliary visits

When necessary undertake reception duties to include booking appointments, handling money, including weekly banking, dealing with complaints and sending correspondence to patients.

Ensure that all Trust Policies are adhered to including safety procedures and cross infection.

Physical Skills
Standard keyboard use.

Dexterity to handle instruments / equipment confidently.

Required to travel across the county.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered on the GDC
  • Trained and examined to National Certificate level or equivalent
  • I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.

Desirable
  • Certificate in Sedation nursing
  • Certificate in Radiography
  • Certificate in Oral Health Promotion
  • Certificate in Special Care

Experience
Essential
  • Dental chairside assistance in a range of patient care treatments
  • Experience of organising and maintaining a dental surgery including good infection control and decontamination procedures
  • Experience of working in a dental setting including handling cash, booking appointments and sending correspondence to patients
  • Maintenance of CPD portfolio

Desirable
  • Sedation nursing.
