Job description

SEN Teaching Assistant – South Oxhey

Location: South Oxhey, Hertfordshire
Start Date: September
Contract Type: Full-Time
Salary: £85–£110 per day (dependent on experience)

Supply Desk is seeking a compassionate, proactive, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a friendly and inclusive school in South Oxhey from September.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and play a key role in helping them flourish both academically and personally. The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers and the SENCO to provide tailored support for children with a variety of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, SEMH, and learning difficulties.

You will provide 1:1 support, lead small group interventions, and assist in delivering engaging learning activities that meet the individual needs of pupils. You will help create a positive, structured, and nurturing learning environment where children feel safe, confident, and motivated to achieve their goals. Encouraging independence, promoting positive behaviour, and supporting pupils' emotional wellbeing will be central to this role.

Working as part of a supportive and collaborative staff team, you will build strong relationships with pupils, parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure every child receives the support they need to succeed. Whether you are an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or have relevant experience working with children with additional needs, this is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference within a welcoming school community.

The Role

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs.
  • Support children with ASC, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, SEMH, and learning difficulties to access learning and participate fully in school life.
  • Work alongside the class teacher and SENCO to implement personalised learning strategies and individual support plans.
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, resilience, and independence.
  • Adapt classroom resources and learning activities to meet the individual needs of pupils.
  • Build positive working relationships with pupils, families, teachers, and external professionals.
  • Uphold high standards of safeguarding, behaviour management, and pupil wellbeing.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has previous experience working with children with Special Educational Needs in a school, childcare, or care setting.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, patience, and behaviour management skills.
  • Has experience supporting pupils with ASC, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, SEMH, or learning difficulties.
  • Is passionate about creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Can build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents, and carers.
  • Is adaptable, reliable, and committed to helping every child reach their full potential.
  • Has a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

What We Offer

• Competitive weekly pay in line with the MPS/UPS pay scale.
• Dedicated support from experienced local education consultants.
• Access to high-quality CPD and professional development opportunities.
• Comprehensive safeguarding training.
• Opportunities to work within supportive and well-resourced schools.
• Weekly pay with a straightforward payroll process.
• Refer a Friend Scheme – earn £100 for every successful referral who completes five or more shifts.

If you're a committed Primary Teacher looking for a rewarding opportunity in Watford, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today to secure your role for September.

Supply Desk is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and safer recruitment procedures in line with statutory guidance.
