Job description

About us:

Make a difference and advance your career by helping deliver some of the UK’s most important #tech4good projects, making the world a smarter, safer, greener, and healthier place.

You’ll join a talented team of dynamic and driven professional problem solvers; creative thinkers and solutions builders who thrive on helping clients meet the most exciting digital transformation challenges. You’ll experience a dynamic and nurturing environment that rewards initiative and flexibility and enjoy a career path tailored to your own aspirations.

Founded in 1992, we are a successful, growing International digital transformation consultancy. We deliver multi-Queen’s Award for innovation winning platforms and services that support large-scale digital transformation. Our digital, data and technology solutions are used by globally recognised public and private sector brands operating in a variety of sectors including Civil Defence, Healthcare, Sustainable Environment and Land Asset Management, and Digital Democracy.

Requirements

Role Responsibilities

This is a varied role that calls for adaptability, ambition, and a proactive approach to working in a fast-paced, agile environment. You will:

  • Deliver innovative geospatial solutions: Design, build and continually improve enterprise-scale software platforms, APIs and cloud infrastructure that enable advanced spatial analytics, Earth Observation processing, AI-powered location intelligence and modern GIS services for public and private sector clients.
  • Collaborate across disciplines: Work alongside Senior Engineers, Data Scientists, Geospatial Specialists, User-Centred Designers and Delivery Managers to design innovative solutions, contribute to architecture, and deliver high-quality digital services.
  • Ensure standards and best practice: Follow established approaches, provide accurate technical estimates, and escalate risks or issues where required.
  • Communicate and build relationships: Present prototypes, solutions, and progress updates clearly to stakeholders, while building strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues, clients, and partner organisations.

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years’ proven experience in a GIS Software Engineering role, with strong skills in .NET, Java or Python, plus modern JavaScript libraries.
  • Experience designing scalable geospatial applications using AWS or Azure.
  • Experience working with GIS platforms, geospatial data and spatial APIs.
  • Knowledge of open geospatial technologies including PostGIS, GeoServer, OpenLayers, Leaflet, GDAL or QGIS.
  • Experience with geospatial applications that integrate cloud platforms, AI, and Earth Observation data to solve real-world challenges
  • Understanding of modern software architecture including microservices, APIs, serverless computing and event-driven systems.
  • Experience working in Agile teams using Scrum, Kanban and test-driven development.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with experience working within multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience processing/analysing Earth Observation or remote sensing data.
  • Exposure to AI, Machine Learning or GeoAI applied to spatial data.
  • Experience with raster processing, vector tiling or spatial ETL workflows.
  • Experience working with Geographic Foundation Models (GeoFMs), large geospatial AI models or multimodal spatial machine learning would be advantageous.
  • Experience working within consultancy environments and engaging directly with clients.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions or Terraform.
  • Understanding of the Government Digital Service Standard and Technology Code of Practice.

Senior colleagues, experts, and leaders at Informed Solutions are committed to supporting, coaching, upskilling, and enabling the success and career progression of each other.

There are some foundation areas, however, which you need to possess to be able to successfully contribute to your team and work alongside others.

Key abilities that are necessary for success

  • Able to work effectively in environments where you can adapt to innovative practices involving uncertainty, change, and agile working.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and your time so you can deliver high-quality work within deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to respect and accept different perspectives and disagreement, work collaboratively in diverse teams, and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Good judgement and decision-making in complex environments where uncertainty, ambiguity, and risk must be collaboratively managed by working supportively alongside others.
  • Good communication skills, including clear, constructive written outputs and measured, respectful verbal delivery.

We work in a fast-paced, ever-evolving innovation and problem-solving workplace environment where no two days are the same. This requires you to have the foundations of personal resilience, professional adaptability, and flexibility in working alongside others with a positive mindset.

We appreciate that this workplace culture and the level of variety won’t suit everyone. However, after significant consultations with colleagues at all levels, we understand that these are the fundamentals of success in undertaking the complex, innovation work which is the DNA of Informed Solutions.

As colleagues, we thrive in successfully problem solving together to deliver real-world impact; and value the variety of challenges and opportunities to learn, grow, and progress on a personal and professional level.

Personal Qualities

  • You use your experience to lead, coach and mentor more junior team members.
  • You should excel at conveying complex technical concepts in a non-technical manner and facilitate trusted working relationships with stakeholders.
  • You should have the ability to work collaboratively, proactively and be flexible in responding to changing needs and priorities.
  • Excellent work planning capabilities and time management skills.
  • Ability to balance conflicting deadlines and priorities.
  • A meticulous attention to detail.
  • Punctuality, reliability, and a clear commitment to your role.

  • Build enterprise-scale digital platforms used by government and major organisations.
  • Collaborate with highly experienced consultants, architects, software engineers, data scientists and geospatial specialists.
