Attendance Officer Role in a High-Performing Secondary School

A High-Performing Secondary School in Dartford is seeking to appoint a dedicated and organised Attendance Officer to join its pastoral support team. About the Role

The successful candidate will take responsibility for monitoring and promoting excellent student attendance across the school. Working closely with senior leaders, pastoral staff, parents, and external agencies, you will identify attendance concerns, maintain accurate records, and implement strategies that support improved attendance and punctuality.

You will play a key role in ensuring attendance procedures are followed effectively while building positive relationships with students and families to encourage regular school attendance.

This is a rewarding role for an organised, proactive individual who is passionate about making a positive impact on students' educational outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily attendance and punctuality across the school

  • Maintain accurate attendance records using the school's management information system

  • Contact parents regarding student absence and follow up attendance concerns

  • Produce attendance reports for senior leaders and external agencies

  • Support attendance meetings and intervention strategies

  • Work collaboratively with pastoral teams and safeguarding staff

  • Ensure attendance procedures comply with statutory guidance

  • Promote a positive culture of excellent attendance throughout the school

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience in an administrative, attendance, or pastoral role

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills

  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and management information systems

  • Ability to work accurately with confidential information

  • A proactive and professional approach with excellent interpersonal skills

Desirable

  • Experience working within a school or educational setting

  • Knowledge of SIMS, Arbor, or Bromcom

  • Understanding of attendance legislation and safeguarding procedures

  • Experience working with families and external support agencies
