Job summary
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will work within the existing CNS team for Vascular Surgery, leading the management and care delivery for vascular patients with emphasis on prevention, screening and surveillance of vascular disease, alongside time critical vascular care provision.

Main duties of the job
  • To work independently at an advanced clinical level in the direct delivery of high quality care, making clinical treatment decisions based on advanced assessment.
  • To provide clinical leadership and support regarding vascular care to the nursing teams across the Trust and support colleagues in developing the Trust's vascular service to improve the patient experience.
  • To support wider vascular MDT with day to day clinical activity (to be determined according to need of specialist area).
  • To provide in-patient areas with consistent high quality care and support of vascular issues.

  • Clinical experience within Vascular services
  • Experience of leading within a team
  • Evidence of innovation in practice
  • Recent experience of having facilitated learning in practice
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable
  • Undertaken a leadership/management programme
  • Module/course in Research methods
  • Evidence of research based nursing practice and linking theory to practice
  • IT skills Ability to undertake and interpret Doppler assessments (ABPI) Knowledge and skills to select and apply the correct level of compression therapy

SKILLS AND ABILITIES/ ATTRIBUTESEssential
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the NMC Code of Conduct, scope of professional practice and accountability and PREP
  • Understanding the role of vascular specialist nurse Able to demonstrate current knowledge and identify own learning needs
  • Demonstrate knowledge of clinical governance framework
  • Able to comply with infection control guidance
  • Evidence of active involvement in complex wound management
  • Evidence of advanced vascular skills and knowledge
  • Ability to identify risks and act accordingly
  • Able to community clearly both verbally and in writing
  • An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality
  • Ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness and common sense

QualificationsEssential
  • Level 1 Registered Nurse
  • Current NMC Registration
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Theoretical and practical vascular specialist knowledge and skills

  • Postgraduate Vascular Training
  • Experience in Nurse led independent clinic
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
