Quality Engineer

Portchester, Hampshire
Up to £39,000

Be the Quality Professional Who Makes Things Happen

Are you a proactive Quality Engineer with a strong manufacturing background and a passion for solving problems on the shop floor?

We're looking for an energetic, hands-on individual who doesn't wait for issues to come to them. Someone who enjoys being visible in production, investigating problems at source, and driving improvements that have a real impact on quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a manufacturing business where you'll play a key role in supporting production teams, resolving quality concerns quickly, and leading continuous improvement initiatives across the operation.

The Role

As Quality Engineer, you'll work closely with Production, Engineering, and Operations to ensure quality standards are maintained and enhanced throughout the manufacturing process.

You'll be a key point of contact for quality matters, taking ownership of investigations, driving corrective actions, and supporting the business in achieving operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on quality support to production teams, ensuring issues are identified and resolved quickly.
  • Investigate production, supplier, and customer quality concerns.
  • Raise, manage, and close Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis activities using tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, and Pareto Analysis.
  • Implement and verify Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Conduct incoming, in-process, and final inspections.
  • Analyse quality data and identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering and Operations to improve manufacturing performance.
  • Support internal, customer, and certification audits.
  • Maintain quality records, reports, and documentation.
  • Drive initiatives aimed at reducing waste, scrap, rework, and customer complaints.

What We're Looking For

We are particularly interested in candidates who have developed their career within a manufacturing environment and have a proactive approach to quality management.

Requirements

  • HNC, HND, Degree, or Apprenticeship qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in a Quality Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or similar role.
  • Proven experience managing NCRs, RCA, and CAPA activities.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production environments.
  • Experience using inspection and measurement equipment.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

The Ideal Candidate

You'll be:

Proactive and self-motivated

Comfortable working directly on the shop floor

Driven to solve problems rather than simply report them

Able to build strong relationships across departments

Passionate about continuous improvement

Organised and capable of managing multiple priorities

Committed to delivering sustainable quality improvements

This role would suit someone who enjoys being at the heart of manufacturing operations and takes pride in making a visible difference every day.

What's on Offer?

  • Salary up to £39,000
  • 37.5-hour working week
  • Opportunity to work within a collaborative manufacturing environment
  • A role with genuine autonomy and ownership
  • The chance to drive continuous improvement and influence business performance

Ready for your next challenge?

If you're a hands-on Quality Engineer who thrives in manufacturing and enjoys taking ownership of quality improvements from shop floor to customer, we'd love to hear from you.
