In 2020, Swansea Bay University Health Board established theMR Physics Group.

The successful candidate will become a part of this dynamic and friendly MR Physics team, providing scientific support to sites across Wales.

The NHS in Wales is offering a salaried post-graduate training post for a high calibre science graduate who is passionate about science and its role in patient care in the field of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Physics. Please note that this post is open only to those who have been awarded or who are currently undertaking a recognised MSc in Medical Physics or equivalent (e.g. PhD in MRI Physics).

Main duties of the job
On completion of training, prospects for permanent employment within Wales are excellent. For individuals with aptitude and commitment there are opportunities to progress through the career pathway to Consultant Clinical Scientist. Job responsibilities
You will be located at the Singleton Hospital on the coast, adjacent to Swansea University. The Health Board covers a population of approximately 0.5 million people and also provides tertiary services including cancer across southwest Wales for close to a population of 1 million. The Health Board provides a full range of services across Singleton and Morriston Hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot Hospital. The Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering is mostly based in the Singleton Hospital and operates across the Health Board and beyond, employing about 120 scientists, engineers and technicians. This is a particularly exciting time to train at Swansea with the successful candidate contributing to the development of the new MRI Physics service. MRI scientific services are provided to Health Boards across Wales and to Swansea University. The department has very strong links with the university with an active established research collaboration. The successful candidate will be based in South-west Wales at Singleton Hospital in Swansea and be employed by Swansea Bay University Health Board for the duration of their training. There will also be some travel expected in order to attend other training centres, sites at which services are provided or workshops.

  • Honours Degree in Physics or closely related subject
  • Have taken part in supervised clinical activity to postgraduate diploma level Knowledge acquired through study and experience to formulate appropriate advice and judgments.
  • Accredited MSc in Medical Physics or a close equivalent (or working towards)
