Job description
Patient Activation Director - Respiratory / Hepatology
The Respiratory / Hepatology Patient Activation Director role is a unique opportunity for an experienced, innovative, and proactive medical professional to facilitate the understanding of the value of our medicines, the science behind them and the public impact they can offer to drive engagement with and recruitment for GSK clinical trials. The role serves as the lead for the [Respiratory/Hepatology] pipeline with specific focus on patient activation globally – developing and executing the patient and physician engagement strategies that drive patient enrolment into [Respiratory/ Hepatology] clinical trials. The Director will define the approach, develop patient-facing content, and coordinate with patient and physician organisations, while maintaining close alignment with asset-level patient engagement leads, product-specific Global Medical Affairs teams, Clinical Development, and DevOps colleagues to ensure every initiative is oriented toward the ultimate goal of accelerating clinical trial enrolment.

The Global Patient Activation Director for Respiratory/Hepatology will work in a thriving team of medical business leaders where people will be inspired to drive towards achieving our goals of getting Ahead of Disease Together and positively impacting patient and population health outcomes globally by using innovation even more competitively to help close gaps in medical care.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:
  • Develop a deep, indication-specific understanding of patient journeys across [Respi / Hep indications] – mapping diagnosis pathways, key healthcare touchpoints, and the moments at which trial-eligible patients are most reachable
  • Proactively identify settings, communities, and care pathways with high patient concentration and retention potential to drive awareness and referrals towards clinical trials (e.g., GP practices, specialist clinics, (digital) communities) – generating & applying learnings on patient barriers to trial participation referral behaviours and disease awareness gaps to sharpen activation strategy over time
  • Define and implement patient activation strategies for each relevant trial, bringing genuine innovation and creative thinking to the question of how to compliantly reach and engage patients at scale – with a focus on social media campaigns, disease awareness, direct-to-patient trial communications
  • Build and support collaborative relationships with external partners (e.g., patient associations, GP associations, advocacy groups, and specialist societies) and specialised vendors (e.g., social media agencies, patient recruitment specialists) across [Respiratory/Hep] indications – identifying novel opportunities for patient activation (including joint disease awareness, trial education, and patient referral initiatives)
  • Develop and maintain patient-facing and HCP-facing content for trials and activation strategies – translating complex scientific strategy and clinical data into clear, accessible, and engaging materials suitable for lay audiences and physicians (not already engaged in trials) alike
  • Ensure all patient and HCP-facing content meets medical, legal, and regulatory review standards across relevant markets; keep content accurate and current as data evolves
  • Maintain close, ongoing alignment with asset-level patient engagement leads to ensure trial patient activation strategies integrate with broader asset plans without duplication
  • Work closely with Clinical Development and Development Operations to deliver activation strategies, ensuring they are sequenced and targeted in line with trial protocols, site readiness, and enrolment goals.
  • Collaborate with Pipeline Execution Medical Director to ensure consistent narrative across all trial-related external materials
  • Thinks globally, while deeply understands priority LOC (Local Operating Company) needs and success measures. This is accomplished through extensive partnership and collaboration with LOC teams to understand landscape, unmet medical needs and timelines for deliverables required for their success.
  • Development of deep subject matter expertise on the products and indications as well as the ability to drive proactive strategic planning

Basic Qualifications
  • MD/MBBS/PharmD or PhD in clinical / scientific discipline
  • Considerable experience in Pharma with a substantial focus on patient engagement, patient advocacy, medical affairs, or clinical trial recruitment.
  • Genuinely patient-first in mindset – bring the patient perspective into every strategic and content decision, not as a compliance exercise but as a core value
  • Strong understanding of clinical trial processes and the Medical Affairs role in supporting investigator engagement and enrolment
  • Demonstrated track record of designing and executing patient activation or disease awareness strategies that have directly contributed to clinical trial enrolment or patient access outcomes, ideally with use of social media or digital tools, or through relationships with patient and physician organisations/associations
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects, budgets, and interactions simultaneously
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient.
  • Outstanding listening, communication & collaborative team working and leadership skills, as the role involves interface with a wide range of stakeholders internally and externally
  • Evidence of alignment to GSK Values

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous clinical or scientific experience in one or more [Respiratory / Liver] indications – COPD/Asthma/CRSwNP or MASH/ALD
  • International or global role experience, or ability to show international thinking and have worked on projects across markets
  • Demonstrated matrix leadership in previous roles with ability to build strong networks, manage complexity and cultural diversity
  • Robust understanding of internal and external codes of practice and regulations (certification where applicable)
  • Experience supporting pipeline assets at a global level, including content development for multiple indications simultaneously.
  • Background in digital health, direct-to-patient marketing, or social media campaign execution with demonstrated results in patient reach and activation.
  • General understanding of clinical trials, statistics, safety, regulatory requirements.
  • Skilled at simultaneous consideration of scientific data and practical healthcare delivery needs from diverse health systems to optimise medical implementation of innovation.
