English Teacher Role in a Leading Independent School

A Leading Independent School in Cambridge is seeking to appoint an inspiring and dedicated English Teacher to join its outstanding English department from September. About the Role

The successful candidate will teach English Language and English Literature across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that inspire a lifelong appreciation of literature, language, and creative expression.

You will encourage students to become thoughtful readers, confident writers, and critical thinkers through a broad and ambitious curriculum. The department also offers a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including debating, creative writing clubs, theatre visits, literary societies, and author workshops.

Applications are welcomed from experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers who are passionate about delivering exceptional English education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach English Language and Literature across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging and challenging lessons that inspire academic excellence

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations

  • Assess progress and provide high-quality feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Support extracurricular activities including drama, debating, and creative writing

  • Create an inclusive and stimulating classroom environment

  • Foster a love of reading, writing, and literary analysis

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching English at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge and excellent classroom practice

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

Desirable

  • Ability to teach English at A-Level

  • Experience delivering strong GCSE and A-Level outcomes

  • Commitment to extracurricular activities and wider school life

  • A passion for inspiring students through literature and language
