Job description

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research. The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury. Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence. Many of our recruitment programmes use Value Based Interviewing to identify those who have the skills we seek, who share our values and who are able to deliver compassionate excellence from the outset. We know that this makes a significant difference to your job satisfaction and above all the outcomes and experience of our patients and their families. For more information about our Values and Value Based Interviewing please visitwww.ouh.nhs.uk/about/vision-and-values Job overview We are looking for a band 6 Specialist Practitioner to join our small nurse led Triage Team. Our service is available 7 days a week for Oncology and Haematology patients to contact Triage for telephone advice. The team provides expert advice to oncology and haematology patients to ensure early recognition of potential emergencies, treatment complications and the provision of a follow-up structure. Triage provides a clinical area for nursing and medical staff to assess and monitor patients prior to a decision to send the patient home or admit to a ward as appropriate. Main duties of the job We are looking for an experienced registered nurse with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who is keen to learn and take on new clinical skills. Oncology or Haematology experience is desirable but not essential as training will be given. Telephone and video assessment skills are vital in this role so clarity of message, decision making and picking up on verbal cues are crucial. We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed and professional approach to the delivery of care, ensuring the best patient experience. Candidates should be excellent team players with the ability to use their own initiative and judgement to resolve issues. They should also have a tactful, sensitive manner, work well under pressure, with a flexible approach and a willingness to suggest ideas for improvements. Previous experience in an acute setting, sound clinical assessment skills, demonstrable leadership along with an ability to demonstrate compassion and a commitment to learning new skills are all essential to the role. The successful candidate can look forward to working in a professional environment with a team that is passionate about delivering outstanding care to patients and their families.
