Due to some expansion within our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), an exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and forward-thinking Psychologists to join our dynamic CAMHS teams. We are seeking enthusiastic professionals who are committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based psychological care, and who are eager to contribute positively to the mental health and wellbeing of young people within our community.

The ideal candidates will demonstrate strong assessment, formulation, and therapeutic skills, as well as the ability to manage complex cases. Excellent communication, interpersonal abilities, and a compassionate, person-centred approach are essential.

The post is offered at a band 8a, but newly qualified or soon to qualify Psychologists are welcome to apply and would be eligible for a band 7 role, with the potential for progression from band 7 to 8a through a competency-based gateway.

Main duties of the job
As a CAMHS Psychologist, you will provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention for children, adolescents, and their families presenting with a wide range of complex emotional, behavioural, and psychological difficulties. You will work closely and collaboratively with children and young people, their families and carers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic, person-centred care that is both effective and compassionate.

Your role will involve:

• Supporting the CAMHS and CAMHS ID services
• Conducting comprehensive psychological assessments (including assessments within the neurodevelopmental pathway)
• Developing and delivering therapeutic interventions, to individuals and groups, based on best practice, current NICE guidelines and the latest research.
• Formulating psychological understanding of cases, contributing to multidisciplinary case discussions and care planning.
• Providing specialist psychological advice, consultation, and training to colleagues within CAMHS
• Engaging in risk assessment and management, supporting the safety and protection of young people and their families,
• Contributing to the supervision and development of trainee psychologists, assistants, and other team members as appropriate.
• Promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of service provision.

The posts will be line managed through our Psychology and Psychological Therapies Care Group, providing excellent opportunities for support and supervision, and links with local Psychology Training Courses, to which we provide regular placements and teaching.

Person Specification
Training and Qualifications
Essential

• Good Honours degree in Psychology (2:1 or above). Eligibility for Graduate membership of the BPS
• Post-graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or those in lateral transfer) as accredited by the BPS/HCPC
• Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist by the HCPC
• Eligible for Chartered status with the BPS
• In addition to routine CPD and supervision, has demonstrated a clear commitment to developing a specialist area of expertise relevant to the post through significant training, personal study or experience (essential for Band 8a role)
• Post qualification training in supervision of other psychologists (essential for Band 8a role)
• Significant post qualification specialist training / experience through having provided assessment/intervention to children & young people under clinical supervision whilst working as a Specialist Clinical Psychologist (essential for Band 8a role)

Desirable

• Chartered status with the BPS

Experience

• Experience of working with people with a range of mental health / psychological problems and across the lifespan and a variety of settings
• Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC. (Applicable to and essential for 8a role)
• Evidence of taking full clinical responsibility for clients with a range of mental health problems and severity, within the context of multi-disciplinary care (essential for Band 8a role)
