Job summary
This post will join a team of 4 consultants responsible for the provision of Community Mental Health Services across the geographical footprint of Swansea. There are 5 Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT),.

This post is will join a team of 2 consultants, 1 specialty doctors, 1 team manager which are supported by a wider team of community psychiatric nurses, social workers, clerical staff and medical secretaries. This post is based in Ty Einon Centre, Gorseinon, Swansea. Within the Area 3 CMHT, the doctor's interests and expertise cover a very wide range of mental health including ADHD, as well as quality improvement projects such as pharmacist led clinics. The post is a community post and there is no regular requirement for any in-patient work, although liaison with the in-patient service is expected when necessary. In-patient beds are provided at Cefn Coed Hospital Swansea, which is about six miles away from the CMHT base.

The secondary care patient case load currently stands at approximately 500 patients, and the primary care out patient case load is an additional 3,500 patients, spread across the team. The post holder will be supported by 2 other consultants in the team and 1 speciality doctor.

Main duties of the job
You will need to:

  • Be medically qualified, MRC Psych or equivalent
  • Be innovative and imaginative with the ability to initiate service improvement
  • Have an excellent understanding of current developments in psychiatry and other aspects of mental health
  • Have substantial knowledge of change management, relevant legislation, contemporary issues in mental health, knowledge of and experience in purchaser/provider contractual issues

About us
Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. The HB has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot.

Mental Health and learning Disabilities services are provided both in hospital settings (Cefn Coed Hospital, Swansea Caswell clinic and Taith Newydd at Glanrhyd Bridgend) and other community settings.

Essential

  • Registered with the GMC
  • Licensed to practice
  • On Specialist Register with GMC as a specialist in General Psychiatry or eligible for CCT within 6 months of date of interview and have passed exit exam or a statement of eligibility for registration issued by PMETB or a primary medical qualification and recognized specialist qualification from a European Member State which will allow direct entry to the GMC Specialist Register


Desirable

  • Further relevant degree/diploma
  • Teaching qualification/Higher qualification in medical education


Experience
