Job description
Patient Pathway Lead The closing date is 05 August 2026. An exciting 8-month fixed-term opportunity has become available for a Patient Pathway Lead within the Rheumatology and Metabolic Team. This role offers an excellent chance to develop your skills and gain valuable experience within a specialist service. As a Patient Pathway Lead, you will act as a senior point of contact for the Access and Choice (A&C) team, working closely with clinical and nursing colleagues to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care. You will help oversee patient pathways and support the effective running of services in accordance with Trust policies and standard operating procedures. This is a full-time position (1.0 WTE), working Monday to Friday, with shifts scheduled between 8:00am and 5:00pm. Main duties of the job * The successful applicant will have previous experience of leading a team and managing change, and should be resilient, motivated, organised, work well under pressure and possess exceptional communication skills. * They will work closely with the Service Manager and Operations Manager to ensure the Trusts Access Policy is adhered to and that all administration-related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met, with remedial actions put in place where necessary. * They will also be responsible for the personal development planning and learning needs of the staff within their own administrative team, as well as managing any human resource issues. Job responsibilities This role will primarily be focussed on supporting the admin team. They will work closely with the Service Manager, Operations Manager, RTT Team Members, Clinical leads, Consultants and all other clinical staff in the directorates, Heads of Departments, HR Partner, Divisional Accountant, and Patients/Representatives. * Outpatient and Inpatient Waiting list Management. * Manage annual leave, sickness absence and time owing in accordance with Trust policy. * Responsible for workload planning and delegation on a continuous basis, ensuring equity of distribution between admin team members. Person Specification Communication & Relationship Skills * Able to communicate complex or sensitive personal information clearly and sensitively with a wide range of patients, in situations where there may be barriers to understanding (e.g. language difficulties, anxious or distressed patients or relatives) * The ability to both work co-operatively with other teams within the Trust to develop effective working relationships * Able to communicate clearly and sensitively with a wide range of patients, in situations where there may be barriers to understanding (e.g. language difficulties, anxious or * Able to induct new staff into the department, demonstrating tasks to colleagues. Knowledge, Training & Experience * Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, with Grade C or above in English and Maths. * Operational management within a management role. * Experience of supervising a team of staff. * Previous experience of staff management including objective setting, appraisal, performance review and development. * Knowledge of the full range of administrative procedures, acquired through training and previous experience of working in an administrative environment. * Awareness of the requirement to maintain confidentiality, and knowledge of the Data Protection Act. * Experience of working in a non-routine environment, with demonstrable evidence of problem solving and resolving issues as they arise (acquired through experience and/or training to Vocational level 4 or equivalent). * Experience of working in a customer facing environment, resolving queries and using initiative to ensure first-class service delivery. * NVQ Level 4 in Business Administration, Customer Service, Healthcare Support Services or equivalent qualification. * Previous NHS experience, or experience of working in a healthcare setting. Analytical & Judgment Skills * Able to work independently, managing own workload and allocating work appropriately to others. * Able to induct new staff into the department, providing training to new colleagues. Able to supervise a team of colleagues, providing day to day management and support, including delegating tasks and allocation of work. * Able to analyse and interrogate data and performance information, using experience and judgement to make recommendations on actions * Ability to make decisions in a constantly changing environment (e.g. clinic setting) using judgement to deal with queries or escalate where necessary. * Advanced keyboard skills, and competent use of IT, including competent use of databases. * Able to deal with sensitive information with tact, diplomacy and understanding * A strong understanding of multidisciplinary issues and commitment to multi-disciplinary working * Good skills of influencing, persuasion and negotiation * Ability to make decisions in a constantly changing environment using judgement to deal with queries or escape where necessary. * Able to deal with sensitive information with tact, diplomacy and understanding.
